I got a lemon!

Got my 3D at 10:30am and turned it on. Booted just fine. Hand free activation did not complete (had a "data connection error". It asked me to go to setting and "update profile". I pressed that and it started doing its magic. I walked away to let it complete. When I return the screen was black so I hit the power button.

What I see almost gave me a heart attack. The screen was just a bunch of rainbow dots. I can't see anything because it covers the whole screen. If I press the bottom four buttons the phone vibrates but still nothing.

Tried pulling the battery out many times. Nothing.

Took it to the Sprint store. They were no help, said they don't have the 3D yet.

I really don't wanna send my phone back already but I might have to.... :'(

Any ideas?

Tried that. It won't even turn on if I'm holding the volume button (tried both of them). If I press the power button it turns on but still same problem.

Maybe button combo is different on the 3D vs. original evo?

Call telesales NOW ... If you put in your replacement order you can have another new one by this time tomorrow ... Another thing is that the Sprint stores should have them in the building at least by tomorrow so that would be your other option ... Whatever you do ... Don't let them get away with not sending out a replacement today ... Be firm but also be respectful ... You'll get what you want alot faster.

* Yeah, did the battery die during activation? If so, try charging for 30 minutes or so..

* Also, try removing the SD card and putting it back in...

* Download the instruction manual mad available the other day online and see if there is a different way to do a hard reset.

How many EVO 3D's do you think have been returned, processed and refurbished since this morning when they first landed in customers hands? If it's even 1, they've set the mobile phone repair industry on it's head and will rule the world and beyond.

Glad I'm getting mine from a Sprint Store. They will have it all setup by the time I get it.. So if it goes belly up, they have a chance to replace it before I get it..

Yeah I saw this screen before with the Kingdom ROM. I let it sit for more than a few minutes, still nothing. Also, the battery had about 40-50% charge out the box.

I called Sprint and they are over nighting one. I was really hoping I didn't have to return but oh well.

I think its the up key now. Think Phil or someone else mentioned this in another one of the million threads about this phone. Someone was asking about bootloader and how to get into it.

UPDATE:

Telesales told me to they will overnight a new one. Gave me a confirmation number and order number. I go to plug it into "check order status" and nothing shows up. I call sprint and they tell me they couldn't authenticate my identity (I gave them pin and everything) so MY ORDER WAS CANCELLED.

Who wants to see a grown man cry? :'(

Anyways....they told me to go to a sprint store and show them my id. Really Sprint??!?!?
