I got an Android, but want to go back to the iPhone. Why is this?

Okay, so using cars as an analogy may not be the best idea. What do you think a better analogy would be that most are familiar with?

Why do we need analogies? Why can't we just say what we mean?

Why are analogies ever used? It's part of our language. Seems weird to exclude them just because we're discussing hardware. ...but let's not go anymore off topic. No analogies it is (for me anyways :-)

Well as my post said there is no real argument as it's a preference thing.. No one is wrong for liking one over the other. If they say it fits them better.. No one can change that :).

Already said what I mean :).

You pretty much hit it on the head. Android is worse off in everyway for battery, camera, speed, texting BUT and only but, it is much more open than IOS. Android isn't close to being as refined as IOS but I will say this, if the Moto X had even a half way decent camera I would have kept mine.
this is my 5th time trying android and i have always gone back to iphone. why is this? i know over all android is superior in everything but everytime i use the android it seems like its just worse off in everyway for battery, camera, speed, texting and anything else. i have the lg g2 but been an iphone user my whole life. what do i do to stay on android. any suggestions?

If you're like me, it's probably across the board disagreement. Android devices are clearly faster at most tasks, have many more hardware options, have three of the top 5 camera phones out for mainstream consumption, the x, g2 and maxx get astounding battery life given what they're pushing and the capacity and while some OEM's provide a disjointed experience, android itself caught up to general ui cohesiveness and smoothness at the end of 2011. I'm surprised to see that argument resurface.

Some or these things are subjective and some require qualifications, such as of course pushing double the pixels three times as fast takes more battery, but to do that and still win isn't exactly slouching. Both systems are good at different things, but that list seemed to be entirely the things that android is and has steadily been winning at for quite some time.

iOS is currently my mobile OS of choice and I have to disagree with this. I love iOS and all my iGadgets as they're refined and easy to use out of the box, no adjustments necessary. However, the G2 and G Pro I had were GREAT devices and the Nexus 5 is incredible bang for the buck. The G2's battery life was simply incredible and its camera was great. The G2, G Pro, and Nexus 5 all had delicious displays. To me, speed was a non-issue. The only devices I had, out of the many, that had performance issues were the S4 and Note 3. ...and even those the performance was never bad, just not as smooth as I've seen on other hardware. With some work you can replace the ROM on either and negate even that issue...or so I've read. Texting? The fact that android allows you to use the keyboard of your choice makes up for any shortcomings that may be included in stock. I never understood why Moto didn't think it important to include a better camera but I don't, from what I've seen, think that the X's camera is really all that bad.

It's still mind boggling to me that people still call Android when devices like the G2, Note 3, Nexus 5, Moto X, and the 2013 Droids exist. Battery life has improved greatly as well.

I suppose it depends on what constitutes faster. I find that doing a task is faster on Android, such as sharing, but tasks execute faster on iOS.

Battery, there are Android phones with much better battery, I agree.

Though there are better cameras, one of the best all round cameras still seem to be the iPhone. Pull out and shoot, get a nice shot.

I use both platforms, iPhone 5 and Nexus 7. I think they both are fine, both with their annoyances and pleasantries.

I hate how Chrome sticks and stutters, how the touch input doesn't seem right, how the OS can feel bogged down at times and how the icons can be wildy different sizes. Look at that terrible OneDrive icon. But I love the sharing menu, Gmail is off the hook and Android notifications are second to none.

My iPhone works perfectly. Everything is there, the apps are well designed, I love iOS7, nothing stutters or lags AT ALL. I love siri and love the camera is very dependable. I hate the animations, and it looks and feels worse with it turned off. I hate that we can't do things like set ringtones easily, and set default apps.

IOS, Android, WP, BB10 all have their virtues, and you shouldnt care what someone else chooses.

PS. And I Dont know what you guys mean by the tech savvy and their choice in android. I am close to a lot of software engineers and they all use iPhones.

Yeah, about that...

Thats a direct comparison between an iPhone 5S and Nexus 5. I used to think the same thing you do, but now I have to wonder if iOS really is faster.

The thing I like about iPhone cameras is that they do not compromise on the quality to still have great camera software. They are not the best, but they are always among the best as far as quality, and the software is always easy and intuitive to use. I have a lot of iPhone criticisms, but the camera aint one of them.

That used to be a huge advantage of iOS...but I think Android phones have finally spammed enough hardware at the problem to make it go away. If you look at that video, you can see the nexus is easily as fast and smooth.

Of course, iOS is able to achieve this on even lower end hardware. The Nexus 5 is one the the best Android phones you can get right now.

If you are coming on here as a non-phone nerd looking for opinions on what phone to buy, these debates can be very useful. Not everyone is aware of the assets and drawbacks of each platform like we are. That is true even of tech professionals like engineers. Being an engineer does not necessarily mean they are familiar with all the features of the major phone OS platforms.

I hear a lot of criticisms of both iOS and android since I frequent both AC and iMore forums. I won't go at length but there are legitimate pros and cons to each platform. We can dissect it through and through but to some the S4 is simply better than the 5s, the 5c better than the Moto X. Some strongly disagree. While, for me, the debate has lost its luster it's still at least entertaining and occasionally educational to read the various arguments. I think it's still boils down to your priorities and the experience you prefer.

And everyone is entitled to an oprion. But in a forum like this, I do not think it is unreasonable to expect someone to be able to give specifics on why they prefer one over the other.

If you say "just because" it leads people to believe you might just be motivated by trends or the logo or whatever. And I think that is a huge criticism of Apple people...that they buy technology based on an image rather than what it is actually doing for them.

I'm not of the crowd that concerns myself of what folks think of Apple users though I do understand that some really do care what others think of them when it comes to such things. I honestly feel that no one buys an iPhone because they want the most customizable device with the biggest display. Nor do I believe anyone buys any of the plethora of android devices because they're seeking the simplest of experiences or richest of app ecosystems. In other words, I think most mobile device buyers have some idea of what they're buying into or they do some research and find out. Some...some people may even, may even browse a forum like this as part of such research but I'm of the opinion most do not. I think word of mouth amongst friends, family, and coworkers plays a larger role. Us technophiles eat forums up. My 80+ year-old parents wanted smartphones and I recommended iPhones somewhat selfishly. I wanted them to have the simplest smartphone experience so they'd not only have the best experience FOR THEM as well as to not need my assistance with their phones constantly. I am of the opinion android is for those that want to play and tinker with their devices. I am not a fan of stock android and still believe iOS a great choice for those that would leave their devices stock. Now, with the time investment of tuning Android is great. Get bored? Totally switch things up.

There will always be that crowd that buys Samsung or Apple because of their marketing. That's effective marketing and more should do it, IMO. At this point, I think there's just as many, if not more, that do know what they're buying into and follow their preferences. What kills me is when I read, "Android users this..." or " iOS users that...." I am just OF THE OPINION that most of us don't KNOW MOST Android users or Apple users...we know the ones we've come across...which is certainly not MOST. There's millions of android and iOS users out there. Speaking as if one knows MOST of them seems misinformed at best and arrogant at worst.

So for me, it's never "just because" and I don't think it is for most people. At a minimum, I think many people may rely on other's (friends and family) experiences in guiding their buying and us techies do all this research and stuff on something as ubiquitous as a phone. To us techies it's rewarding and fun.

My iphone never studders or lags because apple wont let any software out on it that might push it to its limit. And I love that, I dont ever want to use my device to its full potential because I am just way to impatient for that. I wanna wanna what I want and I wanna wanna it now. And if I haft to sacrafice a few clock cycles and give up that extra computing for the prettyer graphics of (insert application here) then so be it. Atleast I am not frustrated and throwing my stupid studdering droid on the floor.

Now that I hope everyone is laughing on both sides.

Uh it depends alot on what's cached on what phones as well. Some things will load faster if there's cache

Lol so you're saying you're loving only getting 60% worth of your phone because you like that Apple doesn't push it to the limit? Strange

Why 60% and not 40% or 99.999995%?
