I got asus zenfone 2 and it wont let me hard reset

my phone decided to go back 7 years and none of my apps work and it wont load settings to go and factory reset it when i go to hard reset the phone I go into recovery mode and it doesnt give me the option to factoryreset/wipe data it says 3 things: reboot system now, apply update from adb, and apply update from microsd. What do I do (no i can not bring the phone to a store and get it fixed that way my friend gave me the phone and he also doesnt know where it came from)

Hi, welcome to AC!

I suspect hardware issue or try reload the stock firmware , being that phone like 5 years old not sure you'll find much info on it or worth repairing.

Since you don't know where it came from, it's possible that a previous owner rooted the phone and installed a custom recovery and/or ROM.
