I got my Nexus 5X (First Impressions, User Reviews)

Re: Mine has just been delivered

All your wants are all the reasons people get a phablet to begin with imo. The 6p will most likely have better battery life (huge battery in it) and videos and games would just look better on bigger higher res screen. Not to mention browsing, as you could see more of webpages.

All who's wants??

So it Geekbenches better than everything on single core except the Nexus 9, S6 Edge and Note 5. And better than everything except the S6, Note 5 and Note 4 on multi-core? This is a bit better performance than expected no?
Benchmarks are not everything. Samsung phones are running touchwiz one slowest UI and worst ui's i have used on a phone. I had one samsung phone never again and there updates are the worst of all OEM'S.

Re: Mine has just been delivered

The cable supplied with the 5X is VERY short {in my opinion}. I've just ordered 2 cables from Amazon, 1x type C - type C, 2 metres in length which was £10 and 1x type A - type C, 2 metres in length which was about £8. You have to make sure you read the reviews as some of the leads out there aren't great quality but I'm certainly not paying Google's prices for a lead that is not even available yet in the UK.

except that higher resolution screen on the 6P will draw more juice.

I've been happy with 1080P on a 6" (Lumia 1520) and tend to think that these WQHD's are overkill. I wish MS hadn't gone that route with their new 950's either. But that's me. :)

Approximately how long is it?

Re: Mine has just been delivered

Hi!

I've a few questions if you don't mind!

1) Could you post some "very short-distance" pics with HDR+ (original size if possible) ?
I'd like to compare them with photos taken with the Nexus 5:

2) What is the minimum focus distance with the 5X camera? (about 5cm-6cm in the Nexus 5, depending on light conditions).

3) Is the Signal strength good?

4) Is the GPS strong enough? (I always had some issues with the N5's GPS, or with directions or walking directions in Google Maps). Can you lock your GPS indoor (for instance, in a restaurant).

Thanks in advance!!

Nexus 5x brief review and first impressions

Some people may have seen some previous posts around the Nexus 5X hype and my disappointment with Google ordering process. The phone is now being used to type this thread having been delivered by the carphone warehouse in one day! I thought I would share my first impressions.

The phone works really nicely. It's very snappy and responsive, and the screen is crisper than that of my old LG G3 to my eyes. Pixel peeping may give different results but I prefer the Nexus for text etc.

The phone is an ideal size for me (relatively large hands) and is pleasant to type with using one or two hands. It's also very light. The best feature for me, by far, is the fingerprint sensor. I am acclimatised to the position coming from an lg phone but the location makes unlocking and authorising things with this phone very quick and it hasn't skipped a beat for me yet.

Camera wise, it's okay. I'm currently in a dimly lit pub and the pictures are mediocre. It could do with some form of image stabilisation but I haven't thoroughly tested this by any means. I think in full light it will perform well but hasn't magically cured the issues all sensors have in the dark. Tendency to hdr and no stabilisation is a bad habit for the camera so far.

It's a speedy handset, with all of my apps and data being installed in under half an hour with the whole process using less than ten percent battery. The charging lead is disappointingly short and I'll need to order a second.

A brief word about marshmallow. It's great - and it's taken no adjustment from me other than the back button being on the other side. Need more time to get stuck into the new battery features to be able to comment..

There's my very general and rambling first impressions!

Cheers,

Jack

Re: Nexus 5x brief review and first impressions

Something to add to the initial impression, on the Nexus 5x the Google launcher is a 4x5 layout, not the usual 4x4. I had the moto x2014 and nexus 5 previously so this came quite jarring to me, since they are the same size but different ratio, all the icons are smaller on the homescreen (weirdly in the app draw its still a 4 app layout across the width of the phone)

Could you post samples of the pics? I'd really appreciate it.

The back button is on the left or the right?
I thought it was still on the left (which is exactly where its always been in vanilla androids since the Nexus 4 at least)... If its on the right i'm going to have to return mine when it arrives!

Re: Mine has just been delivered

Hi, could you do me a huge favour and use the "Manual Camera" or "L Camera" app and check what the longest manual shutter speed on the camera is? It used to be 0.8 seconds on the N5 and N6

It's on the right with Samsung devices. Not sure where they are on LG.
