I hate the annoying DROID announcement on start up.

I like rebooting my phone around iPhone users. I wish the DROID announcement were louder.
When I saw the thread title, I would have bet good money that somebody would make this exact post.

*I'm not saying you're doing anything wrong.* I have a couple of iPhone users where I work and I'm looking forward to doing this at some point in the near future.

Or you could just try this update.zip I made to remove it. Worked on my phone.

Update.zip for Boot Animation Sound Removal

Just remove the "(Stock Boot Animation Sound Removal)" from the zip files name. Copy it to the root of your SD card. Boot into hboot (volume down + power) then select recovery.

On non-rooted phones when the screen pop ups black with an exclamation point, hit power down + power and a menu will pop up. Select install update.zip. Let it do it's thing and then reboot the phone.

Your sound should now be gone.

Qazme,
I tried this on a 2.2 phone without root and I get:

--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

Also, when you get to the screen with an exclamation point you need to push volume up and the power to get the menu to come up.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

You have to have root I suppose. I misquoted the volume down + power for the menu sorry.

I am a tech n00b and I know just about enough to screw up my DInc so I am hesitant to root.

I have searched for a non-root way to remove the audio, but have come up empty. Anyone had luck on this?

I know a non-techy way. You'll need:
1. a Droid Inc running 2.2
2. a pillow or a roll of fat on your body

Easy steps:
1. turn on Droid Inc
2. stuff Droid Inc under pillow or comfortably under your roll of fat
3. wait 1 minute

That's it! So-called "problem" solved! :)

In all honesty, when you see the boot screen say (ironically) "HTC Quietly Brilliant", put your finger over the speaker in the back. It will be muffled.
My wife also hates it, but I like it, when I'm not at work.

I'm digging the "DROOOOOOOOOOID" sound, makes my friend jealous of his crappy LG phone
