I hate the bullet hole on my new screen.

My new Pixel 10 Pro XL has a small hole in its screen where the camera is. It's not perfectly round, which is mildly concerning, but defects in my product is decidedly NOT what I am posting about here. I would hate the hole even if it were perfectly round. I hate how I zoom in on pictures of people, loved ones even, and have the bullet hole show up smack dab in the middle of their forehead. It's highly distracting in just about every other context as well. The only time I do not notice it is when the screen is black in the curved part of the top of the screen.

I'd really rather not have to find another phone without a notch or a hole because experience has shown me that any feature of a phone I like will either be phased out entirely or limited to phones that are underpowered or simply not for sale in the USA. Headphone jacks, expandable memory, physical keyboards, you name it. To that end, I would like a solution to make that part of the screen permanently black. Some setting, app, or thing I can do with the Android Debug Bridge. I can't be the only person who hates the bullet hole.

Every Android and iPhone has a hole cutout and that's not changing anytime soon.

Show a screenshot of your pictures with hole cutout in them ? Mine don't have any cutout in pictures.

Welcome as a new member. :)

I agree with you. It’s a preposterous design feature, a design failure in fact, but now so nearly universal as to be almost unavoidable. I’ve managed to avoid it so far on both iPhones and Androids, but the future is unpromising. From research that I’ve done in the past, there is nothing, or nothing worthwhile , that you can do to conceal it.

I'm sorry I'm not really sure what we're talking about here but when I launch my camera there's no bullet hole.. if we're talking about the screen punch hole in the middle of the screen while you using your phone, that's a non-issue..

Yeah, I'm a bit confused too ... are we talking about the selfie cam hole? If so, I agree it's become a non issue as this has been the way for years. Other than that, I'm not sure what else we can be talking about 🤔

It could be that meeting water resistant ratings for such a design might've been challenging. Not sure what this particular model had for a rating but either way, more moving parts is never a good idea.

Your choice is either the camera on the display or, you lose an entire chunk of display and end up with a smaller screen. Some phones used to allow you to alter the screen to hide the camera (they essentially shrunk the screen) but they were so rarely used that most companies stopped offering the feature. There may still be an app but you'll need to search.

I thought the pop up selfie cam design of the OnePlus 7 Pro was a great idea (although I never owned that phone). But it obviously never caught on. Maybe too costly? Or maybe the motor for the pop up was prone to failing? I don't know.

I had this phone and that was a horrible idea. I thought it was going to be great but that motor failed and eventually the camera didn't pop up. Why do you think they abandoned it?
