I hate this phone. (spontaneous reboot issue)

I've had this HTC One X since December, haven't rooted it or anything and have added minimal apps, all from the Google store. Up until a few weeks ago, I loved the phone even though, every once in a while, it would randomly reboot itself.

Over the last few weeks, the reboot issue has become constant. It happens 5-10 times a day. The phone also repeatedly gets stuck in a reboot loop, and I have to soft reset to break it out of that. The first time that happened, I took it in to AT&T. They were unsurprisingly useless and told me my warranty had expired but I'm eligible for an upgrade.

Today, I finally got around to backing up my content and did a hard reset.

And it didn't solve the problem.

Is this phone done? I would think this is a software issue. Unfortunately, I'm now running 3.18 (as of yesterday I think, I was hoping an update would solve my reboot problem) and can't attempt to root the phone to flash another ROM. I do have a toddler who sometimes tosses the phone, but it's in a case and he doesn't throw too hard. Is there a possibility this could be a hardware issue that I can get repaired? Or is it time to upgrade and sell my soul to AT&T for another 2 years?

Go into bootloader then recovery (power button+volume down), wipe cache dalvik cahce factory reset and system (THAT'S IT). now flash your backup/ rom and than kernel and you're good to go.
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILLTY FOR WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONES (DIES/CRASHES/BRICKS) DO NOT MAKE ME GUILTY, I WILL LAUGH AT YOU

For my thinking you can not flash a rom if your not rooted and right now I understand there is no exploit for the 3.18 but they are working on it. Check on it, but if you know ADB commands you might be able to clear cache with ADB but I am not sure. Best to go to the XDA forums AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL - xda-developers for the ATT version of HTC one x and do some reading in Q&A there might be a solution there, The devs do not care for "noobs" posting repetitive questions there but if you search and don't find a similar problem post a question and see what happens.

Thank you for the suggestion to go to XDA. I didn't see anything there resembling my problem when I looked before. I did hesitate to post there even though I know I am far more literate and likely more tech-savvy than most forum visitors.

As it turns out, the phone was still under warranty. My biggest mistake was trusting the guy at the AT&T store. I should have known better. Anyhow, I have a refurbished replacement phone in my hands now.

If the first commenter could read, you would have seen that I already factory reset the phone. It didn't solve my problem. Also, I was running a ROM that cannot yet be rooted. Based on the fact that it slowly deteriorated over time, I'm thinking it may have been a hardware issue.

OK miscue. I had similar problem. it started with random shutdown. then it became serious. shutting down immediately after starting. the battery was acting funny too. one moment it was showing 30% then in a blink it was down to 0%. I tried everything: factory reset, stock~custom roms, RUU flash. firmware upgrade, full battery drain. all. nothing worked. made me very frustrated. left it unused for a long time (I bought it in Dhaka without warranty) :'(
then last month I tore apart the HOX. it wasn't easy. had to use prying tools. cleanded it a bit and most significanly tore off and threw away the copper covering over the battery. put it back together and voilla. its working.
something more happened. from the begining while my hox was turned off, single click on the power button would start it up, which should not be the case. It should need the power button to be pressed for 3-4 sec. But after disassembling the set, the power button is also working ok.
What do you think? Funny?
