i hate Voice mail what are my options

You need to get on your computer and go to google voice...on your comouter you need to follow the directions to set up a google voice lite account...(the lite account will be just visual voice mail...it wont port your number).....then follow the directions they give you......I think they give you a number to call.....you call it.....then your voice mails will show up on your phone app. You have to set it up on your computer first though. When you call it may say its not supported on verizons network or some other bs......just hang up and it should work.

I suppose you could use your phones browser....but its easier on your computer.

^ tried that but, I thought it would automacticlly set it up on the phone. ( it still showed VZW as the VM in settings) Then that didn't work and tried to install app with no luck....

If you just want Google Voice for voicemail, you don't need to use that # for calls.... You can use it for JUST voicemail if you want for your current VZW number.

When you receive a call on your VZW # and miss it, it just forwards to your GV # and leaves the message. Your caller doesn't know the difference. All it does is replace the VZW Voicemail service with Google Voice Voicemail service. You continue to use your same VZW # with no changes, outgoing calls still use the VZW #.

There are multiple levels of using Google Voice. And most people are just going to use the most simple one of just Voicemail. You shouldn't go messing around with porting your number and doing forwarding unless you really need all of that.

That's cool, but how does it notify you if you have a new voice mail? I used google voice on my Nexus S on sprint, amd it kinda sucked because the app doesn't sync amd notify very quickly, so I had to have it text or email me that I got a voice mail, and then I had to go launch the google voice app to look. It was wonky and messy. It also tried to take over handling my text messages, which I didn't like because the app doesn't sync quickly. It is unacceptable to get new text messages 10-30 minutes late.

Google Voice app has push notifications of voicemail. You can also have it email you when you receive the voicemail with a mp3 and a text transcription. You can also get SMS notifications. My Google Voice app works 100% perfectly with push notifications and everything. And I use it as a primary #.

You don't need to use it for SMS either if you don't want to. Like I said you can just use it for Voicemail and that's it. If it does anything else that's just user error when setting it up. You do not give out your Google Voice number. All you do is use it for a forwarding box for voicemail if that's all you want.

As the poster a couple up said, just go online and get a Google Voice #, set it up for voicemail on your account, download the app and configure, and that's it. No forwarding, nothing. Everything else will be more hassle than its worth if you're not going all-in with Google Voice.

I just now set this up on my DX - works great. But, I get an e-mail and a text? One or the other would sufice and I can't figure out how to eliminate the sms?
