I have a dream... that one day I will have InfinatelyMNML on my phone...


I just got a Droid Charge yesterday and I'm going back and forth on the idea of rooting my phone and attempting to flash the infinity Rom to download that InfinatelyMNML theme I love so much.

In a previous post, someone said it would be a good idea to initially flash this file with Odin: [ODIN][ALL IN ONE][EP4D] Gingerbread 2.3.6 W/Root/CWR/IMO Kernel 4.0 - xda-developers.

After that I know I need to flash the Infinity Rom.from here: [12-11-11][ROM][EP4D] InfinityROM - xda-developers. And then after that I want to download InfinatelyMNML for my color scheme.

I've already started doing the research and learning, but there seems to be a lot of conflicting messages out there. A couple of questions I have are:

Is there a How To video or topic that has helped any of you?

Can this be done on my macbook?

My firmware is 2.3.6 gingerbread right now, and my Baseband and Build numbers are EP4. Does any of this need to be changed to do the above?

Is this all worth it? Once I start down this path will I need to be constantly flashing and tweaking? Maybe I would be just as happy downloading beautiful widgets, I dunno, but I would like your take on this.

there was another manthat had a dream and so far we all see how that worked out...
you ask a lot of questions and that is good as there are several answers to each ..mine theirs and others..

if yer already on GB just take the plunge and see if it works .. as far as a Mac goes .. welp,, i have no answers.. and there are some but few far and far fetched... just keep checking .someone knows yer answers... as for that theme ,, welp i have never seen it but i dont search them out, I do try roms here n there along the line .. sry i could not help but sooner or later some one will jump in so keep tabs on yer post for answers.. there are a lot of smart folks here on android central to point you in the right direction..

I haven't been around much recently but I hope I can help.

As far as rooting and the like with a Mac., you have 2 options. First do a search in this forum for that specific procedure. I am sure it has been ask and answered by someone smarter than me. More helpfully maybe is this answer: have you tried using bootcamp? My understanding is that it will run Odin and get you on your way.

Is rooting worthit? Well that is a matter of opinion but I cannot live without it. No bloat no ads my phone is truly my phone.

Will you be constantly tweaking? Only if you really want to. I do it because I can and I am a geek like that. You do not have to. I ran tweakstock with mnml as is for a week and loved it just as is.

I will try to help if needed and when I get home look further for your Mac answer....my thumbs are tired...lol

1. The "custom ROM" that I flashed after rooting proved to be inferior in many ways to the stock ROM, notably in the incredibly poor battery life I experienced.

2. Bluetooth function, never a strong point in this phone, became even more problematic. Pairing with other devices became nearly impossible, whereas before it was merely difficult.

3. When I realized I'd had enough and wanted to return to the stock ROM, I once again referred to the methods found at xda-developers.com. I followed their instructions to the letter. My phone no longer works, at all. It is deceased. It is an ex-phone. It is a paperweight.

Root at your own risk, and don't do it unless you have $700 in spare change to replace the phone if your experience mirrors my own.

3. Does your phone go into download mode? It is pretty hard to brick a samsung phone. Do you want to try and revive it? I and others will help when we can....

The ROM I had installed was the Infinity ROM. Was trying to flash back to stock ROM when all this happened.

My phone does not go into download mode. It does not respond to anything. I've tried pressing pretty much every button combo possible with the power button, plugged in to computer or not; no response at all.

I'm certain that I failed to follow one instruction absolutely correctly when I did all this. Or else there is a fatal communication error in the USB port on my computer (though it hasn't shown up in any other symptoms). My point is simply that you can ruin your device relatively easily based on my experience.

I am actually thinking it is something with the phone. When you said it doesn't power on at all, that is odd. With a brick I thought you still get juice and a symbol on the screen telling you that you are fubar'd. Just putting this out there but you should still be under manufacturers warrenty.

Also there are unbricking services out there that might be a cheaper alternative

Thank you pizza and max for your responses. Im going to take maxs advice and not root...for now. I was able to tweak and change the look of my phone through go launcher ex pro and other cool apps. Maybe down the road ill want to root, but for now im loving my phone the way it is.

fantastic. I a glad you got to see both sides and made a decision you were comfortable with. The biggest plus with android is that you have choices. Some good, some bad. Some for me and some for you. I hope the phone does and is all you want. I love it, rooted or not

I'm a huge nerd who roots everything he owns -- tablets, phones, televisions, etc.

I just wanted to congratulate you for making the right decision. Rooting isn't for everyone
