I am very, very, very close to buying this phone but have some questions.

1. With apps like SnapChat and Instagram do you get notiications when you receive a snap or somebody likes your picture?
2. Does Youtube work when you side load it on here? Is there problems with sideloaded apps in general?
3. Does this thing have a good battery life? What about screen on times? I've heard some places that its great and some say its greatly horrible.
4. How good is the camera? If any are coming from last year's Moto X is it an improvemnt?
5. Can anybody post pics of the phone in its leather case?

Thanks y'all

Not much traffic here, right? :)

If you haven't already bought it, today is the last day to get the deal at Amazon.

In any case, you can install the Google Play services easily now and get the full Play Store, and YES, the apps work just like any other phone with regards to notifications. Sideloading is not needed any longer (once you configure with Play Services), so download whatever you want.

With regards to battery life, I find it is great. Better, as a matter of fact, than my iPhone 6. With constant use and some game playing, it drains slowly, more slowly than my iPhone 6 doing similar things.

Camera, I have not used yet, so I cannot say. I wanted to say that this phone is almost identical, sizewise, to my iPhone 6. It fits perfectly into a plastic holster made for the iPhone 6 and is identical in dimensions (except a bit thicker than an iPhone 6).

Hello Lancorp, regarding your reply of installing Google Play, could you please let me know how to do that in the Fire Phone.
As you can tell I am not technical at all. Would it be like going to the Amazon App Store and installing "Google Play"?
Thanks

Re: I have a few questions.... me too

Which is the best carrier deal - both $ and qualitywise,,,,, I would like to avoid a contract too

Amazon says TMobile ATT Walmart ... maybe Consumer Cellular who is rated high by consumerreports.org

Thanks

How exactly do you download the Google Play app and configure it?

Re: I have a few questions.... me too

Jim I posted this below in another thread " Im using straight talk with AT&T sim card and its amazing for $42 a month can get it cheaper from Ebay for $32 a month. My speeds are 29 Mbps down and 12.6 Mbps up and I live where service is terrible. "

tn_friend Dont think you can download the google Play store without rooting phone. I think the worst part of the phone is the Silk browser im using Chrome. I also download 1Mobile Market for apps.

There are lots of good Prepaid services out there. If you want to use AT&T network, try Cricket which is owned by AT&T.

T-Mobile doesn't have contract anymore even if you signup for their post paid plan. You can try their Simple Starter plan for $45 for 2GB of data and all the benefit of post paid: $40 Plans w/ Unlimited Talk & Text | Simple Starter Plans | T-Mobile

If you don't use a lot of data but need to talk internationally, try "Ultra Mobile" which run on T-Mobile network have some excellent prices. MetroPCS which is also T-Mobile is a good option too.

Re: I have a few questions.... me too

I'm using net10 no contract, although haven't switched it over yet. They sold me the nano sim online for $3.99 with alleged overnight shipping which took a couple days because it didn't ship right away. I have the $50 plan, which drops to $45 with autopay. Unlimited, I think my full speed cap is 3GB. They added a $40 plan at some point, has a lower cap. Very easy to sideload Google Play and services. I also use 1mobile market for a couple apps I haven't been able to get from either Amazon or Google Play. Found two so far that Google says are incompatible, but the 1mobile versions work fine. As far as cases, there are many on Amazon, I am waiting for the clear plastic one that went Prime after I ordered it.

To sideload Google Play etc., I followed the directions here:
Amazon Fire Phone unlocked GSM phone for AT&T and Tmobile on sale with 1yr Prime free $199 11-25-2014 - Slickdeals.net

Scroll to where it says Wiki. You only need the first 4 apks, not all six. Those epubor instructions were originally for tablets. I copied the links into a note in Evernote, which I'd already installed on the phone.

Re: I have a few questions.... me too

1. The apps work as long as you correctly install Google framewoek
2.The same as above
3. Battery is better than on a standard Android phone
4. Camera is also above average
