I have a flickering screen which then turns off on my Samsung Galaxy S3, how can I fix it?

flickering screen which then turns off on my Samsung Galaxy S3

My scrren ripples or flickers then turns off. I cannot turn the phone back on, to turn the phone on again i have to plug the charger in. The battery can be half charged so the phone is not flat. This problem is an intermittant one. Could this be a battery problem?
I really love this phone so I would like to fix it.
