Before completing the purchase at Motorola, I need an answer to a question. I want to add the Motorola insurance/protection plan to my cart. However, I can only do that if I sign up for Google*, which I have deliberately avoided doing until now. I then figured out I could set up the account with a pseudonym, so I don't mind so much. I just am not interested in having my name plastered all over the Internet due to having a Google+ account. However, the next step asks me to give "full permission" to access my Google account (and even change it) to Motorola. I had an online chat with a Motorolo representative who said the only way I can get the insurance/protection plan is if I use a Google+ account.
Can anyone explain why they need me to do this? Is it safe to give them permission to access my account and change it, if they wish? There is a disclaimer that they cannot change the password, delete the account, or pay with my Google Wallet. No worry about the Google Wallet---I don't have one set up.
I'm a little nervous about this step. If this is how others are getting their insurance from Motorola, then I presume it's safe. At the same time, I don't want to do anything risky just because I really want this phone.
