I have a Nexus 9 ... with Kindle app ... how do I delete books I no longer want?

Tried tap and hold until dustbin appears (it often doesn't, just a down arrow instead) and delete that way, but it re-appears when I next visit the Library. I do not want a library full of books I've read, so how do I get rid of them permanently please?

Click on 'Your Account'
Select 'Manage Your Content and Devices'
