I have a Alcatel onetouch thru assurance wireless and I want to use a Samsung galaxy s3 model # SPH-L710T with android version 4.4.2 it isn't a straight talk phone. I understand I have to root it but what then?

Welcome to Android Central! Lifeline services are usually very strict in terms of what phones you can use. I couldn't find anything on the Assurance website about being able to bring your own device, but you could contact Assurance yourself to ask: Assurance Wireless | Cell Phone Service | Contact Us
