Hi,I am Suzanne.I have never done this before, all my phones have been easy to use! I got my Droid X last week, and STILL have issues using it! I used to have a BB,and loved the fact at night,I could put it on calls only and never hear text or email or FB messages. This phone cant do that right? The guy at Verizon said to add the Wheres my Droid, put it on silent and tell family to text me a secret word to make my phone turn on.Well, then the alarm clock doesnt go off! There has got to be a better way! Also,is there a way to make different SMS sounds,FB,and email NOT all be the same stupid notification sound?I know I have other questions,I cant remember them all right now!LOL..Oh,one more thing, what are your favorite Apps?

each app should have it's own settings where you can change the notification sound. You should be able to hit the menu button (button on the left) inside of the app and it should give you a Settings option. I use an app called Quick Profiles to manage sound profiles. You can set it to turn off notification or ringer sounds. I have a normal one with the ringer and notifications at normal volume and one with the ringer turned down and notifications off.

+1 for Quick Profiles. I have one called Night, where all notifications are off except the Phone Ringer. In the morning I switch to my Normal profile.

I use....

I came from the BB as well and loved the profile settings. I have been using Silent Time. There is a paid version and a lite version. I have not been able to see a difference, so I am using lite. It allows me to set times to go into quiet mode and then times to turn all the sounds on. One of the great features is, you can set exceptions for specific people. So for example, my sounds go off at 11:30pm, but have my wife set as an exception, so if she calls after 11:30, my phone will ring. It will not effect your alarm clocks either. I use my alarm clock every morning at 5:30am and yet my sounds don't turn on until 6:15am.

Just think back when you got your first BB, it was kind of overwhelming then I bet. Just use this forum to ask questions. We all were new to Android at one time or another.

Another vote here for Quick Profiles. The widget is worth the cost of the 'pro' version, too.

Wow,thanks for the info! I added the Apps quick profile ,silent and night. Now,I have to learn how to use them!

I use an app called timeriffic, that does the same thing, but it does it automatically. You set times and it changes whatever you want.

Once you add the profile, do a long press on the profile name to edit your profile. Change the settings to what you want/don't want for notifications and alarms.

Hint, be careful about choosing the "No Change" option for volume, ringers, etc., because it can cause problems when going from one profile to another.

Example: You silence your notifications in Night Mode, then you select Normal Mode, but your notifications setting is "No Change". You will still end up with no notifications volume, because is was carried over from the previous Night Mode.

You can also long press on the home screen, choose Shortcuts, then hit Quick Profile and choose one of the profiles. This will create a shortcut on your home screen.
