I have several contacts that appear twice and I cannot remove one of them, how can I do it?

I have several contacts that appear twice and I cannot remove one of them

Have a Moto X first edition and recently (after getting a gmail address) I have some duplicate contacts. One is good, and the other says "This contact doesn't exist" when I click on it. I can't find a way to remove the one that says it doesn't exist. Can anyone help?

Pretty obvious that there was a flubbed double sync that happened when you added a new gmail account. What were your contacts synced to before you added a gmail account?

If I were you, I would go to Settings/Accounts and see if your contacts are synced to more than one account. If "yes" then sync it to gmail only. Then, I would go into Contacts/Settings and set it to sync to gmail account only.
