I have tried several Emoticons in the default keyboard, and my recipient can't get them to display

If their using a stock msg app on their Android phones it won't show up,but if their using a 3rd party chat app such as sms pro,what's app etc it will show up,also I can confirm it will show up naturally on iPhones.
