i just don't understand why people turn off AOD?

had the S7edge, never turned off AOD, even before the Nougat update. battery life was excellent on that phone, and now with the S8 plus, it seems to have very minimal impact on battery life. my standby time is unbelievable, much better than my S7edge. with the AOD on, and my phone sitting on my desk face up at work, I average about 1% drainage per hour, if I leave the phone alone.

If this were an iPhone there'd be no discussion as Apple would decide for you and not give you a choice.

The bottom navigation buttons *so* disappear with AOD turned on. I'm not seeing them on my phone (I do remember that there was a setting to make the home button invisible on AOD, so I used that option).

ok so heres my issue..I love AOD but my problem is that when it is in my pocket it shuts off. I want it always to be on so I can take it out of my pocket quick and check it. I even messed with the settings and it still turns off in my pocket.

Maybe I'll give it a shot then :) I like that there's the option to download custom ones.

Yeah, it's cool that you can put a custom image in with AOD but I hate how small the clock is with that option. The reason I love AOD is so I can quickly glance at my phone and see the time from any angle or at distance when it's not on me.

I have like extreme OCD... looking at smart phones all my life screen being off while not using them will not allow me to keep the AOD feature on...

it literally annoys me... when I lock my phone I want it OFF lol

When my friends and I go in a restaurant or something and they leave their S8 on the table with AOD enabled I tell them to put the phone away or move it from my sight lmao it's that bad

I've tried it a few times for about an hour or two at a time and then turned it off. It's just something I've never found useful.

I found another incredibly useful thing about AOD, I use a vent mount in my car and it's easy to quickly glance and see if you got a text message because of AOD without having to turn the screen on. It's such a great feature, I can't imagine turning it off

I turn my AOD off at night, not for any battery saving issue, but mainly because if I wake up before my alarm and see the time my mind starts thinking about what I need to do that day. If I don't see the time I can get back to sleep. Other wise, AOD is great.

You can schedule AOD to go off and on at specific times, that is what I do at night. That is another great feature about it

People claiming AOD does not use much battery are correct. But having AOD also avoids Doze mode. Try turning off AOD and you will realize standby to be improved. Regardless, I charge my phone everyday and have AOD tuned ON on my S8+

Have chargers at home, work and car. Battery is the least of my concerns. AOD on with auto turn off at midnight and back on at 6 AM.

Good for you but some of us may be in the field without having access to chargers every time, or all day battery life must be a must. My point was, AOD avoids Doze mode, that's it.

I don't use it much due to battery drain. Stand by drain is always more noticeable with it on.

Do you have the smart lock set to where the screen goes off when in the pocket? That might be the issue.
