I keep checking software update but there's no software update on my Moto E Android smartphone, why?

Moto is notoriously bad about updates, and the Moto E is their budget line, so I wouldn't expect many updates at all. Your security patch is August 2021, so that's pretty recent.

Which Moto E do you have?

Ok, that's the 2020 Moto E. What I said before still holds -- don't expect many security updates, and I would not expect any major Android version upgrade. It's actually pretty good that it's up to the August security update.
