Re: i know your not supposed to text and drive but

Texting and driving is a bad idea. As well as anything else that takes your attention from the road. All it takes is a little kid to run into the road chasing a ball or an idiot driver that you could have noticed if you had been paying attention. I know if I killed a little kid while I was busy texting there is no way I could live with myself whether I could have avoided it or not.

In the end it's probably just not worth it.

I'm assuming its okay if I just post this link without arguement. If not, mod, I apologize, but it's just to make a point. Eating and driving is even more dangerous according to studies. If everyone wants to totally believe the other studies, then they must believe this one, and accept that eating while driving is worse. And I'm sure we all do this.

What does anyone possibly have to say that is so important it can't wait for me to take 30 seconds to pull over to type it? And of those 1 in a million texts, why wouldn't I just use hands free and call? I can't relate to your fiddling with the radio being more distracted, as that is just 2 buttons for me, and they are thumb selectors on the steering wheel. But people who eat and drive are equally dangerous as texters and shouldn't be allowed to do it either. But the who argument that since they won't stop every dangerous behavior, I will not stop mine is not really an argument, man.

This is the exact same attitude people have who end up crashing into others and hurting/killing them... I just hope that sooner rather than later you win yourself a Darwin award.

How do you know that he has the exact same attitude with those who crash and die?

Texting and driving is an added risk we should avoid, but so is tailgaiting and roadrage, yet nobody is wishing that the driver crashes and dies.

Your reaction is pathetic and emotional, as is your certainty about right and wrong.

Bla bla bla, yea its dangerous for 99% of people. Others have a gift, maybe he has a gift.

And to the og poster, dude don't compare it to eating and driving or something like that. It takes your eyes off the road more than that.

I remember texting and driving with a non smart phone and it can be done very easily and safely.

Back then we had real buttons to feel and now just a small narrow screen with a full keyboard.

How do you feel or know where to type on the full keyboard without looking??

Why not call the person using your headset? Its more efficient and a safer choice at the same time.

please do all of us a favor and get you a t9 app . if your gonna text and drive that would better than a full qerty keyboard. im glad you dont live close to me

Re: i know your not supposed to text and drive but

Yea the speech to text software is suppose to be pretty good from what I remember. I'm lucky in that the Storm 2 was a touch (click) phone, so I won't have a problem with it.

I'll never understand people that actually type to text. The voice to text feature was awesome on my OG Droid and it's just as good on the Bionic.

I hardly ever type out a text message.

This thread is about someone looking for help with texting and driving. Not eating, tailgating or whatever else that is dangerous. If it was I would address those issues.
And you know what? Yes, my reaction is emotional. Its very emotional! And when someone you've been very close with for over half your life almost dies and loses use of their legs because of the actions of others which could be easily avoided(he was in a crash with someone who was texting and driving) then maybe you can tell me how pathetic my reaction is. But until then, please keep your ignorant opinions to yourself.

Unlike so many, I can actually multi task. I've been doing it for a long time and have never had any problems. Just because the government tells you something doesn't make it true. Most people get more distracted by the radio than I will by my phone. Maybe they should outlaw them in cars too, lmao.

This reminds me of my attitude when I was a teenager about drinking and driving. I knew it was dangerous for some people but I had the misinformed belief that I could actually drive drunk better than most people. Thankfully I never ended hurting anyone with my reckless and irresponsible behavior and finally grew up and realized what I was doing was incredibly stupid.

Keep thinking that you aren't as easily distracted as most people. It can only take a second for you to take your eyes of the road to text and have something happen that you don't have time to react to like a child running out in front of your car.

Since this thread has degraded to emotional and irrational rants, I'll try to pull it back. Another recommendation I have is to try different keyboards. Some are very customizable and that will help you out. Others are amazing at guessing the words you are and will type. Personally, I like thumb keyboard.

So you think its irrational to try and stop people from doing things that are proven to have potentially deadly consequences? Really?

Yea well you should of known that one.

Anyway keep us informed about any new safer texting methods you come across. I'm interested to know myself.

And to be honest maybe you can make some good out of this thread by listing your findings and by showing others safer methods of texting while multitasking!

Yes, please share with us the safe ways to cripple and kill people. After all, we don't want to stop the murdering, we just want to make it safer for everyone

Plus one on not texting and driving... It's just not worth it.

Another good tip is the one click responses. I'm not sure if all Android phones have them or not, and I don't personally use them, but I have friends that do. They work great for generic responses to generic questions

If you use Handcent to text, it has quick responses. Long press on the text box, and an option for quick responses come up. Comes in handy for some people.

This thread is going nowhere and the answer to the question is pretty obvious.

Comparing texting and driving to being as dangerous as sipping a softdrink or talking to the passenger next to you is just nonsense and is extremely disrespectful to those who are victims of this selfish act of irresponsibility.
