I love Apple keynotes..

Not to run contrary to your point, but I'd rather have an iPhone 5 with iOS 7 than a Samsung Galaxy S4, but I wouldn't get rid of my HTC One for one.

They invented quite a bit.

But that's beside the point. My post was a jab at the OP.

They haven't invented all the things people largely credit them with though, which was my point. First touchscreen phone? Nope. First graphical interface on a computer? Nope. First mp3 player? Nope. First tablet? Nope. Their knack has been to take what others have created and then refine it a bit and market it better. When it comes to hardware they are often quick to adopt new technologies, but strangely when it comes to software they are often slow. Good examples of this are the cumbersome access to device radios that iOS 7 finally corrects, and the tabbed finder window in the new version of OSX, that it should have had long ago.

Ahh see you're mistaken. You are only looking at the complete product. Almost everything you listed had dozens of apple inventions within them, without which the product would not be possible.

Also, apple itself never actually takes credit for inventing everything you listed. People credit them for it out of their own ignorance.

I am confused so maybe clarify it - you are making an awfully vague claim here:

What dozens of apple inventions were within the firsts of these categories without which the product was not possible?

Also, apple itself never actually takes credit for inventing everything you listed. People credit them for it out of their own ignorance.

I believe his post referred to others giving credit to them. Of course, if apple isn't directly claiming having invented these things, I seem to recall statements back around the time of the samsung trial about how they were doing all the inventing and everyone else was copying. I am sure you recall it too. I would hate to have to go search for quotes.

Things like click wheel navigation, the inclusion of high speed I/O, high capacity drives in a product in your hand. All of those were apple inventions, produced with partners.

Ahh see you can't really bring the Samsung trial into this because that dealt almost exclusively with trade dress. Yes, there were touch screen patents and rubber banding patents, but the bulk of that case was about Samsung stealing the look and feel of apple products.

.

The click wheel navigation is in no way neccessary, nor part of any of the firsts mentioned. High speed i/o is an apple invention? High capacity drives an apple invention? I guess I misunderstood your statement when you said that dozens of apple inventions were required to make the first examples of all these things. You didn't really mean what I thought you did.

Nah, not buying into your alternate reality.

iOS 7 does look pretty nice, and they really made some neat improvements. If they could release a 5 inch phone I would be tempted to carry it as a second device. It would be a hard re adjustment though because I am so invested in the Google world.

The one mistaken here, is you. At no point did I claim that Apple was taking credit for any of these things. In fact my whole point can be sumed up with that last sentance you wrote. You seemed to understand that when you quoted my post in message #15 here. So what changed?

The click wheel was certainly necessary at that time, and an apple invention that was part of the iPod. The high speed I/o was FireWire, which apple invented, and was the first high speed I/o available on a handheld device like the iPod. High capacity drives in this specific instance, yes. Apple designed them, partners built them.

You seem to be living in your own. Oh well.

OK - Here is where I am confused. Here is the string of quotes:

Now, you said he was wrong when he said they didn't invent the first touch screen phone, the GUI, mp3 players and tablets.

Your said he was wrong because "Almost everything you listed had dozens of apple inventions within them, without which the product would not be possible. "

So you can see the confusion. You first claim that all the firsts, mp3 players, tablets, GUI, touch screen phone, had dozens of apple inventions in them.

But what you list is not things in the firsts of these items, so in fact it seems your original point was actually wrong as written and GadgetGator was actually correct.

Now you are trying to change you claim to something along the lines that Apple added things to their versions of these things, which I think fits quite well with GadgetGator's claim that they refine it a bit and market it better.

All of these things existed. Apple has certainly been more successful than any other company in refining and marketing them.

I think you're very, very confused. I agreed that apple did not invent the mp3 player. However, they did invent the technology in the original iPod, for example, that allowed it to have the features that changed the game. Things like firewire were new. Apple invented that. The click wheel was new. Apple invented that too.

OK, well you may have agreed in your mind, but saying someone is mistaken is a pretty strange way to agree where I come from.

In fact when you say the things he mentioned, it pretty clearly didn't include any apple products.

No different from all the iOS and Mac users who think Apple invented every innovation in computing and mobile devices.

Thing is, it is usually Apple that says that in its keynotes. We the more knowledgable users rarely think that. As an iOS user, I have rarely seen Apple do something totally new, it is usually an execution (sometimes better) than already existing tech.

Of course someone who doesn?t read tech blogs or isn't involved in the industry would believe whatever Apple says. But those users are not the object your distaste I imagine.

Read the posts again. You are confused.

Uh, the posts are right there above you.

He said they didn't invent several things (I won't go through the hassle of listing all of them, but none of them was an iPod). You said he was mistaken.

Tell me, what is it about GadgetGator's post was mistaken?

If anything is confused it is your responses.

First mp3 player? Nope.

I'll be waiting for your apology.

HTC actually manufactured the first touchscreen phone! I would much rather talk to an iPhone fanatic than a sammy sheep!

SENT FROM ANDROID CENTRAL'S TOP SMARTPHONE OF 2013!! WOOT WOOT!

Itunes radio sure looks like a killer.

ill stick with my play music

I will stick to Play Music as well too but there is one thing the iTunes radio has over it, and that is price! The paid version of Play Music (with discount) is I think $7 a month which = $84 a year. The paid version of iTunes radio is $25 a year! In no way would this make me switch but you have to admit that is a great price.

You are so brutally misinformed.

The first touchscreen device was released before HTC was even a company. I'll let you look that one up.

EDIT: I used periods instead of exclamation marks, I hope that doesn't confuse you.
