I miss fingerprint unlock

Faceunlock is okay but I would rather my phone unlock when I want it too rather than randomly when I want to pick it up and put it in my pocket.

That **** is annoying. I hate having to lock my phone just because I am putting it in my pocket.

I personally would have it only unlock but stay on lock screen (needing swipe) and not insta into phone but that is just me. That way if it did unlock I would just put in pocket and it would timeout / relock.

That is what I have. There is a reason why Apple has no straight unlock option, it is annoying!

Except that way you have to swipe every time you really want it unlocked.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind - the fingerprint sensor was better than face unlock in every respect.

I agree. This is not progress. It is the thing I hate the most about the phone.

Herd mentality. Apple wandered off in a direction to differentiate themselves, developing a new and novel solution to a problem for which a generally preferred and more economical solution already existed, and Google feels it is important enough to make an effort to encourage other Android OEM's to follow suit.

Funny this thread was posted. I just got my 4XL yesterday from a 2XL. With my 2XL I frequently interacted with my lock screen (swiping notifications to dismiss, deleting emails directly from the lock screen). It will take some getting used to but I will no longer be able to do that. Instead I will have to interact with the phone after it is unlocked.

Yeah the swipe doesn't bother me at all. When I want unlock look and swipe.. want to just read a notification look and read.

I've been using iPhone for awhile and idk how Pixel is but I'd assume it's just as fast to the point where you can grab the phone and swipe right away. I do that with my iPhone immediately and it opens.

It's pretty quick either way... If you have it set to only unlock, bit not jump into the phone, if the thing is pointed at your face, it'll act like it would if you disabled locking your phone.

I'm getting used to it, and I'm still deciding which option to use. I did like dealing with notifications on the lock screen... But jumping directly into the phone has it's place.

What to choose....

You can face unlock to the luck screen so you can interact with notifications. It's in settings

Remains the biggest reason why I haven't upgraded from my Pixel 3 yet. I can overlook the other things I dislike. I unlock so many times without looking directly at my phone, like at a desk, or dinner, on my car mount, etc.

In the end, I believe it was a big mistake not to include both.

I was worried, but there are several different options to unlock. I have AOD always on, but I can also tap to see notifications. I also have it set to stay on lock screen, then just swipe up to unlock. Or you can have it bypass go right into the phone. Lift to check is an option and so is motion sense. I thought I'd hate not having a finger print sensor, but I can live the way Google set things up on the pixel 4

I love the face unlock over the Finger print scanner. I got use to that first on my Xr.
I do have the lock down option turn on . So when I do put the phone in my pocket I use it .Just something I done with any phone with all my phones.

That lock down option is something for those worried about someone else unlocking their phones, while they sleep. Its not active by default has to be turned on

Speaking of lockdown, we need to be able to shout, "OK Google, LOCK MY PHONE NOW!" That way, no matter the situation (cop is about to grab your phone from the seat of your car), you can lock it down without having to fumble with the power button.

No, I didn't mean it that way; it was just a general comment.

If I ever felt the need to do a lock down, it would most likely be in a situation where I have already lost - or am very quickly about to lose - control of the phone. In such a situation, being able to verbally initiate a lock down would be very handy.

That would be a pretty cool feature.
