I need to reinstall the Gmail app on my tablet

When I bring Gmail up on my tablet (Huawei BTV Android version 7.0) the program opens then immediately removes itself from the screen. Apparently it is still running in the background, as I can tap the programs that are running, but it just appears, then removes itself from the screen.

This is something that just started happening today, and has worked just fine since buying the tablet perhaps two years ago.

I am wondering if reinstalling the app might fix the problem, but it is a system application, so it cannot be uninstalled.

Any ideas how to proceed from here? I have tried restarting the tablet to no avail, and just am not knowledgeable about such things.

Google had a problem with a system app, of you go to app store you should see an update for web view, that fixes it

When I go to the Play Store I only get an option to Open. Should I be seeing an Update option?

Found the solution. I updated Chrome and that took care of things.
