I sold my One!

Seriously? Have you actually read any posts on this forum? 75% of the content here is people posting their subjective opinions, unasked. LOL.

Unfortunately it is true (although I wouldn't go as far as 75%) but hopefully it may change in future ;)

Also, everyone needs to keep in mind that someone's "subjective" opinion may not be needed by everyone.

In the last few weeks, myself as well as others have been weighing the purchase of a new phone, either a GS4 or a One. They will have their own plusses and minuses.

The OP basically just wanted to tell his findings of why he got rid of his new One to any who may have a reason to be weighing the decision between the two.

Granted, every experience is different, but if you have enough people witness a certain problem, then people will be cautious of buying that device, at least until the issues are corrected, or they just purchase the other device.

I understand that he should have saved us from the iphone 5 information, but c'est la vie.

So you sold your iPhone for a One because of call quality then sold your One for an iPhone because of power button placement?

You seem to be very eager to change phones. I'm referring to both iP to One and One to iP.

I thought I was "cray cray" (that's hipster iPhone language for crazy) for thinking the same thing...

Because there's no point in sharing your subjective opinion, especially if no one asked for it. I used iPhone 4s before - I still have it but I have 0 issues when using One's power or capacitive display buttons. How is his useless opinion relevant to me (or to other people like me)?
And I have 0 issues with someone disliking the phone and going with another brand instead. It's just sharing your personal likes/dislikes is pretty much pointless because it will not (or at least should not) change the subjective preferences of the other person.

Well, I guess we all better pack our bags and go home (figuratively). This whole website is basically subjective opinions.

Not to sound rude, but this thread is really dumb...
What was the point of this post though? Validation for a crappy decision?

I couldn't agree more with what you said. I never understand posts like this either no matter what the forum is.

I think it goes one of two ways. It's either "I think I made a good/bad decision but am unsure of the proficiency of my critical thinking so I must seek affirmation by others." or "I'm certain my decision was made in a superior way to everyone else who did not share my decision so I must let them know how we compare to one another." Just a guess though.

It's a newly released and high profile phone. Expect a fair amount of posts such as these. Just the way it is.

I certainly consider others' "subjective opinions" before purchasing a device for personal use, because those opinions often reflect real-world, use-case experiences. That's not to say that I will have the same experience, but that I may have the same experience. Such discussion also helps gauge the chances of having said experience (for example, if I wanted to estimate the chances of having the underwater-microphone-effect-thing that Phil had with a One). If you don't care for others' opinions or experiences about a device, you certainly don't need to respond to those posts, but you should also not feel the need to respond and tell them that their thoughts are 'useless'. Also, a moderator's plug: if you think someone's posting an "opinion" in order to goad out unwanted/inflammatory responses, report it and look for other threads to participate in.

Keep in mind that posts in this forum aren't addressed solely to current owners of the HTC One; there are plenty of prospective owners lurking around to see "what the deal is" with the HTC One. This is the case right after launch and will continue to be the case until the phone is no longer considered a 'superphone', flagship device, market leader, or whatever else you'd like to label it.

Edit: I will say that this generally applies more to posts that include more descriptive details and reasoning. ;)

I wouldn't touch the iPhone 5 with a 10-foot pole. That's why I kept my 4S as long as I could. And the iPad went a few days later as well. Hello Android.

I REALLY don't like people like you. saying you wouldn't touch a product that is perfectly capable.

You certainly can do that, it's your choice. I just don't personally believe any rational person should "live someone else's life" instead of their own, so to speak (no offense to anyone) ;) Especially when it comes to highly subjective things like using top power button to wake up the phone (I have no issues whatsoever after using iPhone models for several years and Nokia 920 after that) OR sensitivity of capacitive touch buttons (I also have no issues with these - it all depends on person's skin conductivity which varies... Of course, HTC can satisfy everyone by simply enabling custom sensitivity settings in software) - stuff which can be EASILY evaluated in-person by majority of potential customers BEFORE purchasing or BEFORE return period ends. Pointless threads like these almost always just turn into flame wars and pointless arguments about whose subjective opinion is more objective, and I can already see that happening here (and I don't mean your own post or mine)...

I think it was Oscar Wilde who said, "There is only one thing worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."

I guess that applies to iPhones in this forum. :D

Calm down, dude, it's just an inanimate object, no need to get so personal about it... I also used iPhone 3G/3GS/4/4S for many years but I do not consider iPhone 5 as a good product worthy of purchase for MYSELF, based on my OWN subjective preferences/reasons, and there's nothing wrong with that or with other people who dislike it...

I would generally agree with you there. I suppose I could have worded a few of my statements better; to be clear I wasn't saying that I take others' opinions of things like physical/capacitive buttons as my own opinions. I do, however, take into account their experiences with those features (such as, "my capacitive buttons aren't very responsive"). I can definitely evaluate these things in the store, but that doesn't guarantee that the issue isn't present in a statistically significant percentage of retail devices.

As for threads like these turning into "flame wars" and "pointless arguments," that's why we're here. If that happens, it will be closed or otherwise dealt with appropriately. I do make a habit of posting in threads that appear as though they may head in that direction, to try to establish a presence and ensure the conversation is steered in a positive direction. If it isn't, the thread is closed or discussion dies and it falls back in the forum stack. If you want to discuss this further, I'm more than happy to, but let's do it via private messages. :)

Edit: those replies showed up while I was typing this, we're done here. Thread closed.
