I joined this site looking for answers to many, many questions to android OS before I ever bought my first android device.
The help was over all very good if you overlook the one or two people who just have to live up to the rep of being "that guy".
I was very apprehensive about leaving iOS because I have a Mac, and everyone knows how well iOS, iCloud, and Mac OS integration can be.
I even thought about keeping the iPhone and carrying the android device as a 2nd. Something that I decided not to do in the end.
I ended up getting the LG Optimus G Pro over the HTC One and Samsung S4. I wanted a bigger screen in the 5" range, but I didn't care for the Samsung screen.
Samsung to this day doesn't understand what color white is or how to get it to render on their screen. So that left the HTC and LG.
The HTC at 4.7 was nice, great color etc but I really wanted that Bigger screen. After all, that was one of the main reasons I was wanting to try something other than iOS, I was tired of a 4" tiny screen.
I understand Apple's design choice using the 4" screen and wanting users to be able to use the iPhone one handed with ease. And, it works well for that.
I was worried the 5.5"screen would be too big, and it is, but OMG I am in LOVE the LG Optimus G Pro.
I had 80+ apps on my iPhone and I have found all of those there were important to me were in the Play store. I have seen some people say that the iOS app is sometimes more polished but in my 80 apps, I can't see much truth to that. Many of the apps are identical to the iOS version. Some are even better than the iOS version, some ARE 'not as good' (very very few are not as good).
One app that seems to be different is Facebook: on iOS if someone post a photo and I want it, I tap, it goes "full screen" and I long press and SAVE/COPY pops up. That doesn't happen on android and I can't seem to find a way to save any photo I want from there. Again, minor things.
The ONLY feature that BLOWS beyond belief on android is the lack of Visual Voicemail being a Native part of the OS. You have to download an app or something to take care of that.. I don't know, I don't get it. My 1999 Motorola razor has the same voicemail function as the 2013 Android OS. AT&T has an app you can use that gives you Visual Voicemail but it also takes your default messenger along with it. On some phones, that would be fine. On the LG Pro, it takes away from the Home button color indicator function that LG baked into the phone. For that feature to work, you must use the default messenger app. I hope that android fixes this MUST have feature soon. It's honestly the ONLY thing I can hate on when it comes to android OS.
I wanted to post my thoughts on android here because there are lots of people that are thinking of trying android that have never had anything but iPhone, just like me.
I want to say to those people: its not as scary as you think. Do I miss iCloud integration, ya. a little. The native email client that came on the LG Pro works with ALL of my different email clients, including me.com from Apple.
No VVM sucks, but other than that one sore spot. Android is pretty awesome. Jelly Bean OS fixed a lot and made the OS run very smoothly.
As far as the device. The LG Optimus G Pro is one of The most perfect phones on the market. No one would ever guess because it doesn't have samsung's billions to sink into bashing iPhone advertising. I don't root my phones but I thought I might want to try something like Nova launcher etc since you can add those, if you don't like them, delete and you are back to default GUI.
The LG needs NOTHING. This phone is So PERFECT out of the box. I haven't changed One thing. The screen is fricken amazing looking. The 5.5" takes maybe a day or two to master how to use and hold for max comfort. IMO, the LG owns the S4 but LG doesn't spend a billion dollar per phone to bash another device so it can feel better about itself. It doesn't need to.
Android OS has good and bad. It's no different that iOS when it comes to that. I am enjoying the new (to me) OS. It's Very different than iOS, but to learning the new OS is part of the fun.
It's a challenge to switch OS' but so far. I am enjoying it very much.
There is one part of android I will never embrace. Hating Apple and iOS/WP8 just because I like another OS, android. Anyone that thinks one is truly BETTER than the other is just fanboism.
Apple does some things WAY better than Android. Android does some things WAY better than iOS.
This constant bickering of my dad is better than your dad is the most ignorant, childish, blind thing I have ever witnessed.
It's like trying to fight about Ford mustang vs Chevy camero. Some like fords, some like chevy. I might prefer Chevy, but I still think the mustang is a good looking car.
Same as fighting over OSX vs Windows blah blah blah blah blah. You get the idea. You've heard it all by now.
I can't understand why people feel the need to feel superior because of their phone choice, computer OS choice or vehicle choice. Juvenile idiotic behavior is all I can get out of it.
Either way, my device is better than everyone else's. My car is better than your car. My clothes are better looking than yours. My TV has a better picture than yours.
My stereo sounds better than yours. My dad can beat up your dad. My house is bigger than your house.
Can you see how dam annoying that is?
Android, iOS, WP all kick *** in their own way. Learn to like more than one thing at a time and stop being a fanboi to a specific company that doesn't give a flying crap about you.
