I think I am going to jump the Samsung ship for the new Moto X

I have been eyeing the x too but all the tech reviews are saying two things over and over Poor camera again and battery life is short. I really like the idea of pure android with moto x but really don't want to sacrifice camera and battery to get it.

So you're going to touchwiz or sense for worse UI?

What reviews are saying it's a poor camera and the battery life is short? Every review I've read or watched say the camera is improved and the battery gets you through a day.

Is Touchwiz worth the better camera? Is all the carrier junk worth it?

I am having the same debacle, do I jump ship from a Note to an X, and camera and battery life are the only two reasons that are giving me apprehension. At the end of the day, what will I be using most? The camera and the battery. They both have real impact on my daily life. Carrier bloatware and TouchWiz are fixed by disabling apps and using Nova Launcher. Camera and battery are fixed with a different phone.
Not saying I won't jump, but if we start seeing reviews after a few weeks usage that battery life is poor that goes a long way towards my decision.

I too am thinking about getting the Moto X. I've had the S2 and S4. Does anyone know if the Moto X has a notification light for messages like the S4?

I looked and couldn't see that it does. I think the moto notifications take care of the need for it.

You might love it. Using a phone with such a clean version of Android will be quite a breath of fresh air after being stuck with TouchWiz for so long.
You got that right!

When I replaced Samsung's crapware with CyanogenMod on my tablet it was like a whole new tablet. Recently upgraded from an HTC Sensation 4G to a Moto G (2013) and celebrated the same experience.

As I wrote in another thread: I've had three Android devices with manufacturer/carrier bloat (Vizio VTAB, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, HTC Sensation 4G) and two without (the Tab reloaded with CyanogenMod and now a Moto G). I don't ever want to have to go back to a manufacturer-/carrier-polluted Android experience again, if I can avoid it.

The difference is night-and-day, and I don't think that's an exaggeration in the slightest.

I second what Stone said. The Moto G is an awesome phone—better battery life, texting, call quality, app management, etc. Once in a while I'll download a new app and then find the battery life draining, so I just keep battery-hogging apps off the phone and I can go for a whole day or more on one charge. I also use the Advanced Task Killer and keep my recent apps cleared. That helps with battery life, too.

Can you explain what moto notifications are?

The panel is amoled. This allows for only specific pixels to fire up. Your notifications will pulse on the screen for a time, when you move it or when you pass your hand over it. There is no need for a LED light ad your notifications are on the screen.
You to touch the circle in the middle. It will shows notifications above and below your touch. You swipe in the direction of the notification you want to act on. Or, if I remember correctly, to left to dismiss.

Can you explain what moto notifications are?

The screen "breathes" off and on and it shows what notifications you have. If you look at the phone it'll turn on and show them thanks to the new sensors on the front. The previous gen only let you interact with the most recent notification but I'm pretty sure the new one lets you do the latest 3. Put your finger on it and you can swipe left to dismiss or swipe up and it'll unlock the phone and open up the app for what the notification was for.

I am with iPhone right now the 5s the reason I did iPhone was for a clean UI with no lag and great camera and battery. Its been a great phone but wanted to get back to android and looking for slightly bigger screen. Looking for a phone that has a clean google experience with a great battery and camera is not easy. I wish I could make my own phone, I would take the moto x and slap in the samsung camera and bigger battery. If you have listened to recent podcasts on android central they commented when moto went bigger screen and they lost the portability factor that few android phones have now a days. Now you add a so so camera again better then last year but not the best in low light and a small battery that just makes it hard to justify getting the Moto x over other bigger sized phones with better battery and better cameras.

all complain on the camera , "hit and miss with focus, poor low light" Camera not a high point" Pocketnow was the hardest on it some reason video won't show up.

So its a trade off camera and battery for clean UI and fast.
When I dumped my SLR camera for the iPhone I have been extremely happy with the photos and videos. So to me I need an android phone that can go toe to toe with that experience.

I am pretty much on the same boat. I am coming from my rooted galaxy s3.

I really REALLY wanted the new Moto X to be my device, but I am held back by its battery life and camera. If the camera is better than my Galaxy s3 in terms of shutter speed and accuracy, I'll probably be okay. But battery... I need a full day plus extra, just cuz I hate monitoring my battery usage. On the AC review, it says that I might need to charge it 2 times a day. NOT looking forward to that.
I have to charge my phone 2 times a day now... not fun.

Is the new Moto X camera better than the S3's? I might be okay with the camera if it is, the S3's camera was pretty great.

The Note 4, while I cannot stand Touch Wiz (and love the Moto's "stock" Android), has supposedly a great camera and great battery life. But... TOUCH WIZ. I don't know. The stylus things look cool, and according to people that have the Note 3, the battery life should be great? But is it worth it?

So... we shall see...

I think it really boils down to what you want the thing for. For me, the most important things were build quality, reliable mobile connections, good call quality and long battery life. This was followed by responsive UI and good GPS. The camera came a distant third.

I have a Note 3. I really like it with a few caveats:
1. While I've gotten used to the size it really is a bit too big for me, I realize that now. My next phone will be no bigger than 5.2" for one handed usage. (Looking at Moto X)

2. Multi screen is cool, but imo gimmicky because you can't use it with all apps, so I really never use it.

3. Spen- eh... I use it for screenshots, lol.

4. Battery is fine. With moderate usage I can get about 2.5-3 hours screen on time and the phone lasts from 6:30am to 10pm ish. I normally don't have to charge during the day. I always use the battery saver function though. I do have to charge if I'm using it heavily.

All in all it's a great phone with a lot of options I'll never use. I don't like touchwiz so I use Nova prime, it's great just sucks having to do so much customisation just to be usable.

I am a Launcher fanatic, I never use stock launchers. Nova, sslauncher, smart launcher, etc. But one thing you can't change is the dialer, menu, settings, etc. That's what I can't stand. You're right, though, a lot of those features !right be gimmicky, and multi-window, stock at least, only works with a certain amount of apps. I got used to hyperdrive and alliance ROM, where you could use any app.

2.5-3 hours screen time? That's kinda what some are reporting about the new moto x. Hmm....

The Samsung cameras are nice, too, though. Sigh. Decisions...

Does anybody know if the Droid Maxx had custom ui, or standard moto x ui? Looking at the Droid Turbo maybe.

Eh about the Note 3 camera... My wife's iPhone 5 camera is better and faster in basically every situation. That's right, iPhone 5, not 5S.

Specifically low light pics on the Note suuuuuuuuck for some reason. Also it's ridiculously slow shutter speed. Plus the size of the phone itself tends to make getting the pic set up difficult and slow IMO.

Honestly it makes no sense how a Note 3 camera is so bad in comparison to a 2.5 year old iPhone 5, but it is.

I prefer Android, but I have to admit the iPhone cameras seem to be the best phone camera with the possible exception of Nokia phones.

My s3 camera seemed really good... fast shutter speed, etc. Was the s3 better than the Note 3? I don't know about that. Hmm..... I need to watch the shoot out videos when the Note 4 comes out. And also compare the s5's camera and g3's camera to the iPhone's. And Moto x, but Moto x probably won't do as well. Maybe not do as well against those, but if it takes decent shots... I wonder how the Google Camera is on the new Moto x.
