Hey Everyone,

Long story short...

I've been running my LG Optimus S w/ RebornROM v.2.1 and XioniaClockwork Recovery for months...and everything has been perfect.

I have a hardware issue with my phone now and Sprint is going to replace my LG Optimus S with another one.

In preparation for this, I wanted to 'Unroot' my phone. I was following Zeffie's Stickie thread to do this.

I was in the process of performing steps 6-12 and flashing the GNM's v1.1.0 Recovery Kernel...but I kept having issues...like it somehow wouldn't take the flash.

I was able to reboot back into the ROM with no probs...however I could no longer boot into recovery. I no longer had/have either Xionia or GNM's recovery.

After trying to fix this, my phone won't boot up completely any more, if it reboots, after you see the LG Logo it just stays black. It acts as if the phone is working, but that everything is just black.

I can still connect with ADB Devices, but if I try to use ADB Shell, I get the following error

- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -

Since this has happened, I'm limited because I no longer can utilize ADB Shell. I used KP500 and flashed Zeffie's latest Stock VD ROM (I was running the VD Baseband since I've owned the phone)...the LG Mobile Update tool completed the flash...but I still have the same problem.

Any suggestions?

BJ

See the part I made bold above. What did you do to "try to fix" your issue?

Re: I *think* I bricked my phone??? Please Help

Hey Drew,

After I couldn't install GNM's v1.1.0 Recovery Kernel, I then tried installing the LG Stock Recovery...but I still got the 'black screen'. Then I tried Re-rooting it w/ Gingerbreak to see if it would fix the ADB Shell issue...and no luck there. It completes as if it's rooted...but still no ADB Shell.

Lastly, I ran KP500 and flashed Zeffie's latest VD Stock Rom from his website...but I still have the same problem. Oh, and the KP500 flash does go through with no problems and I do get the 'Completed' message from the GUI...but I still get the 'black screen'.

I tried re-rooting with Super-Click...but it just freezes up.

Man...what the hell did I do??

The reason you got the black screen when you flashed recovery is because both of the recovery kernels you flashed are 100% incompatible with your device. You have a newer version of the Optimus S, which uses display drivers that are different from the ones that are included with the stock V9 recovery, and v1.x.x versions of the GNM recovery.

Dang beat me to it lol. But yeah I'm betting he's right. Download xionia clockwork recovery and go from there.

Edit: On a completely off topic and unrelated note JB Weld is ridiculosick!!! I love this stuff! lol :)

Re: I *think* I bricked my phone??? Please Help

He can't boot into regular Android, so that's not going to help at the current state his device is in.

But I agree 100%, use Xionia recovery.

Whoops lol....guess I should pay more attention.

You mentioned Sprint is going to replace your current phone...does this mean you have insurance on the device? If so then throw that bad boy in the toilet for an hour and "blame it on the rain" :)

Thinking about moving to Colorado so I'm focused on researching lol. The weather apparently sucks in Colorado but man is it cheap haha.

That's a good point. But, I think the OP meant that Sprint is already sending the new device. They'll be sure to check it, and if they find unreported water damage or any system modifications there could be issues.

And yes, Colorado weather sucks. I HATE it. Not to mention people here SUCK at driving.

Re: I *think* I bricked my phone??? Please Help

You want crappy weather? Move to Michigan. It was 55 this morning and 90 this afternoon. :/

C'mon Jessica, is it really that bad? FWIW, People here complain too much about the weather. We've got like nearly zero risk of natural disasters or anything. Compared to hurricanes, earthquakes, tornado alley, drought, you name it, Michigan is pretty ideal. We've got all four seasons for sure, but we never get the very worst of any of them. Just sayin'...

Complaining about the weather when there is really no need, now that's pure Michigan!

As to the OP, I also do not think your phone is bricked, Xonia recovery will hopefully get you back on the right track.

I'm guessing south western portion. Maybe grand rapids or kalamazoo. That's where I'm at and sounds like my weather

Drew,

Ok, so I f*cked up with installing an incompatible recovery. Any idea how I can restore ADB Shell so that I can flash Xionia?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks again for all of your help.

Yeah, but it's a bit of a process. Shoot me a message on Google Talk. (forum username) AT gmail DOT com

Hey Drew,

I sent you a msg via Google Talk earlier. So what I'm thinking is, if I can restore ADB Shell functionality...I can simply use that to re-install Xionia Clockwork and then I should be good to go??

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to give a quick update, since there were so many suggestions received:

Since I was stuck in the 'black screen of death' mode, due to my royal f*ckup, I ended up leaving the phone in that mode.

Since I already had a Service Ticket created with a local Sprint Store due to a previous unrelated hardware issue, I walked into the Sprint Store and did a bit of 'Social Engineering' to keep them from wanting to plug-in the phone and messing with it (Remember, I was trying to prevent the Sprint technicians from screwing with the phone and finding out that it had been rooted, just in case they wanted to say that the Warranty was voided due to the the rooting and thus, wouldn't want to replace my phone due to the initial hardware issue)

I basically told them that I was in a serious hurry and that the phone was 'hosed' due to some OTA update I was trying to do.

That was enough for them to pull out the replacement phone out of the box right away and transfer/provision the new telephone number onto the new device, rather than trying to play around with my old phone.

However that said, perhaps we can get one of the LG Optimus S Guru's (Nick7, Drew, etc.) to create a newly updated 'How to UnRoot your LG Optimus' Thread, to help others from the mess that I had to deal with, when bouncing from one out-dated thread to another.

Just a thought.

Thanks again to everyone for their suggestions.

Alvis;

I'm not quite sure I understand you:

- I was already rooted to begin with, if you go back to the beginning of my post, the issue I was having was when trying to 'Un-Root'.

- I have no problem with ADB, not sure what you mean.

Did you go back and read my post from the beginning?

???
