I think I have a battery issue

So not even 2 minutes ago, my battery just died... At 20%. Not even a warning. Screen went dark for all of a second and then the phone turned off with the dialog box saying that the battery is low so it's turning off. Before, I had to watch out if my battery levels dipped below 10% and sometimes even 15% (yeah, my V20 would turn off at 15% occasionally) otherwise the battery would 'die' early but never 20%. I'm not sure why this is happening but I think I need a new battery. Anyone have this issue?

I also have to mention that I've found that it now charges through the low teen percentages (15-25% range) very quickly, going through 1 percentage point in under 30-45 seconds. I'm also not sure why but I'm not using the provided charging adapter or cable. I'm using an Anker PowerPort 2 (with IQ charging) and a cable from Belkin. Once past the ~25% level, it seems to charge normally or at least takes longer to charge from one percentage point to the next.

All batteries have a finite number of cycles before they deteriorate.
Battery doctor recommends fully discharging your battery once a month to reset the circuitry that looks after such things. I'm not sure I like that idea with lithium batteries too be honest...
In any case, if in doubt, replace the battery lest it fails at the most inconvenient time!

Agreed, discharging a lithium to zero will kill it faster than most anything. They are best charged at around 40%, 30% minimum in my opinion. I've yet to have need to fully discharge for a calibration issue, though I've heard it may help with a brand new larger capacity battery.

To the OP, yes, it's time for a new battery and to change your usage habits. When put under a load, all batteries have voltage sag, meaning the apparent voltage available goes down. On a healthy battery, this is minimal and the phone will keep working right down to 0%. As they age and degrade internally, the voltage sag becomes worse. Eventually it gets to the point that it gets so low that the phone will not be able to keep running even though the resting voltage is still ok.

So my suggestion is to replace the battery, and also stop letting it discharge below 40% if you wish to prolong its lifespan. Lithium batteries like being at a happy medium. Deep discharges will degrade them quickly. Keeping them fully charged all the time will do so as well. So if you really want to manage it with a fine tooth comb, you'd charge it to full and unplug, then plug in at about 40%, and don't charge it overnight so that it is 100% for hours on end.

You can get the spare battery kit with a charger and spare battery for like $31 on Amazon

Always try to use the original charger or a trusted brand USB C cable and charger. Both wireless and super fast charging may cause the battery to wear out sooner due to the heat generated. Good thing the battery is easily replaceable. The legit battery kit is being sold on Amazon.
