I think I've had all i can stand... =/

Ok here's my personal test results. .all things off but Wifi I ran a YouTube video for 32 minutes simultaneously with the m9 and edge and the edge only got to 82 f and for the m9 in reached up to 95 f..battery results were m9 = 90% battery life and the edge = 91%..both screens were on auto brightness. The edge wins by approximately 8 minutes of video play but still runs a lot cooler. .if HTC would have used a better processor it would be close...the edge pushes greater pixels with a smaller battery and it wins..shame on HTC.

Here's what I don't understand, some of you are complaining about battery life and I get that. Some of you have legitimate reasons for why your battery dies overnight and I agree.

Every night, I plug my phone in. When I'm in the car or at work, and my phone needs to be charged, I'll charge my phone. I make sure I'm charged. The only thing I don't like about the S6 is the inability to change batteries.

I'll be the first to admit that I charge my battery every night whether i'm at 5% left or 65%. Now with that being said, you have to agree that it is kind of sad that people are attempting to justify the battery issues by suggesting a modification to peoples charging habits. 99% of the time I charge my phone at night. But, even on my current phone there are nights where I got off work after doing 14-16 hours and have simply forgotten to plug it in. Might have only had 20% left but if that 20% isn't good enough to last 4 hours while I sleep and my alarm doesn't go off and I end up being late for work I will be extremely pissed.

Fortunately this appears to be a software problem, but I just think it's sad to have to make excuses for a 1000 dollar phone.

Went to bed last night with phone beside me at 40%.

Woke up to it not even on, completely dead battery.

i've even done out of the box tweaks... here's the problem i don't even want to have to do out of the box tweaks to get a device to work the way it SHOULD work "out of the box" - Regardless it can't even handle night idle'ing with those tweaks..

Here's the weird part, it was fine the night before.. but last night? not fine.. that sort of Randomness makes me not trust my device.. i mean wtf is even going on?

i'm happy with everything else on this thing.. but wow the android platform as a whole needs to get these very basic things taken care of.

this should not happen. something else is going on here. can you post the two screen shots of a full day/night battery report of off charger from 100% to ~5%? this will tell us what's going on.

Right but poor standby time is a factor with almost all Android phones. My Nexus 6, Note 4 and moto x 2014 all had poor standby like that. I get extreme situations but it's kind hard to expect hardware and software engineers to plan for things like that. I'm sure they set the goal at a day, max. I can't imagine they plan for it to last in a variety of odd scenarios like that.
Poor stand by is one thing but this is extreme. I've had many different android phones over the years and have never had one drop 30 or 40% at night. So I think it's ridiculous just to say it's an android thing and leave it at that.

For the most part, the issue all of you seem to be having is the Wi-Fi consuming battery power in stand by. Here are a few tips to help you out, and last 2 days worth.

1. Turn off Blutooth if you're not using it.
2. Under Wi-Fi, open up settings, select Advanced, and change the setting Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep to Never or Only when plugged in.
Unless you intend to be doing a system update (which you should never do an OTA without the phone being plugged in and on Wifi) reduce the power consumption here.
3. Enable Automatic for Screen Brightness. THIS is your biggest battery killer. Some of you love the whole 100% thing and I get it, but no need for it that bright all the time. Also, keep your screens active for about 1-3 mins tops. Worked for me.

Finally, I would like to add, has Samsung not figured out yet that we all would like our text messages to come in right side up yet? After all the postings, they give us a ****ty answer to half-*** correct the problem, when they can write the code to make the night clock show up in the correct orientation, and the standby bar to show up in the correct orientation, why do I have to turn my 1000.00 phone upside down to receive incoming messages in the correct orientation, when they can simply write that information in the code to begin with? I expected this to be resolved after the Lollipop update, but not one person is lifting a finger to do anything about it. Samsung, this is what is called poor customer service... better listen to us, we know what we want our phones to do, and this seems like a very simple request...one you could have easily put into Lollipop for us. Don't make me take this phone back and switch to another company...You're the main reason I dumped Crapple phones (that and their, it just works, if you have a MAC philosophy).:confused:

i disagree with #2 and #3.

2. WIFI uses much less battery than cellular so you should always set it to keep WIFI on during sleep.
3. rather than set to Auto Brightness it's more battery efficient to set Brightness manually to the lowest setting acceptable to you.

With all due respect, none of your suggestions solve the issue at hand - the phone has up to 40% of its battery life taken up by "Cell Standby" which is not impacted by any of these suggestions. There is now a thread on the S6 Forum that a number of AT&T users are being affected as well.

My Nexus 6 did it quite regularly. Had to wipe it a few times. Now it seems okay but it took 3 wipes to get it behave.

i doubt after the first wipe made any difference. the difference was after the latter wipes you changed settings a certain way.

Battery Tips for Android

1. Toggle off High Accuracy GPS Mode, Bluetooth, NFC,
Hotspot/Tethering. Toggle on only as needed. (Set GPS Mode to "Battery
Saving" Mode).
2. Display Brightness - Turn off Auto Brightness and Reduce Setting
Bar to Minimum Acceptable to you.
3. Sign out of any unused Google Services like G+, Google Now, Hangouts, etc.
4. Disable Location Reporting and Location History.
5. Beware of constantly syncing in background Apps and Bloatware like
Facebook, Twitter, Weather Channel, Games, Google News/Weather,
Non-Push Email, etc. Set Sync interval for every 1 hour or more and
change settings to stop the syncing of data you don't need. Delete
their Apps and use their Web Page if acceptable.
6. Turn Off Hot Word "Hotword Detection" Always Listening Mode in
Google Search if you don't use it.
7. Turn Off Auto Camera/Photo Upload or at least set it for Upload on WIFI Only.
8. Turn Off Vibrate on Touch for Display, Keyboard, etc.
9. Turn Off Touch Sounds and Unlock Sounds.
10. Turn Off Ambient Display/Active Display Notifications if you don't need it.
11. Don't use a Live Wallpaper. Use a dark wallpaper if possible.
12. Set Display Sleep Setting to 2 Minutes or Less.
13. WIFI Settings - Advanced -
a. Network Notification - Set as OFF.
b. Scanning Always Available - Set as OFF.
c. Keep WIFI on during Sleep - Set as ALWAYS if you regularly use
WIFI. OK to keep WIFI on if you regularly use it.
14. Turn Off Always Vibrate in Gmail/Email.
15. Be careful of using too many Live Widgets and what/how often they sync.
16. Set MS Exchange Sync at 30 Days or Less if you use it.
17. Do NOT use a Task Killer App or Battery Saver App.
18. Uninstall ALL Apps that you never use. If you haven't used an
App in one month, uninstall it.
19. Reboot your phone at least once a month.
20. Wipe Cache Partition at least once a quarter or after every OS Update.
21. Consider a Factory Data Reset with a manual re-sync, manual
reinstall of all data and Apps after every major OS Letter Update.
Make sure that all of your data is first backed up to Google and
Dropbox, etc.

"I SUFFER NO HARDSHIPS DOING THIS" - this means that i personally am
giving up NOTHING with these tips. i'm not giving up any features.
there are no tradeoffs for me. a tradeoff or a hardship would be to
turn off PUSH email or use AIRPLANE mode during the day etc.

you have to find your own balance and the tips list is a start but you
must come to your own conclusion as to what's important. it's personal
preference but these are not a big deal to me at all as they do not
affect the function or operation of my phone. these tips do not
deteriorate my experience.

You shouldn't have to do all of that on a flagship phone.

You shouldn't have to do all of that on a flagship phone.

what an entitlement mentality!

you don't HAVE TO do anything. the point is you if you want to MAXIMIZE battery life you can turn things off that you aren't using. it only makes sense. you can whine and have a temper tantrum about the laws of energy and physics and demand that you shouldn't have to worry about it - but there is a FINITE amount of juice in ANY battery. you choose how you want to spend that juice. by default most of these devices have every feature set as ON whether you use them or not. i prefer to change the settings in my phone to only use those features that i personally use and need so i can maximize battery life. i don't leave all the lights and TVs on in my house 24/7 - i turn them on when i need them. i'm not giving anything up. my phone does everything exactly like i want it to. i'm not missing out on anything. it's no hardship for me. it's life.

To be fair you'll find those tips too for iOS.

That's the price you have to pay with any flagship android or iOS ^ making all those adjustments to maximize battery life.

I love my 6 Plus, it's the best even when compared to the Note 4 but I also had too make some changes to make it happen.

Question. Is this TouchWiz and/or Lollipop, I've always used Nova Prime and never had any issues like OP.

Don't think is a Touchwiz issue, Lollipop and a possible WIFi bug may have something to do with it, but let me copy here what I posted earlier on the S6 forum. Here it is.

I got mine yesterday at 9:00AM, first client on my T-Mobile Store, first thing I did was just to wait for T-Mobile Update to complete and then without doing anything else, I went to recovery mode and cleared cache and Clear data (factory reset).

Then I began setting it and first thing I did was to turned off VoLTE, Wifi calling, Smart network and Scanning Always Available (last 2 in Wifi Settings), none of these are needed for me. Then I proceeded to disabled all Bloatware from t-Mobile and some Google Apps that I don't use like Google Play Games and Books and Google Plus. Turned Off Hot Word Detection Always Listening in Google Search.

After that began restoring my apps and data using Google and Hellium while it was charging to 100%, so I knew that right from the first charge my phone was already set as I wanted without Unnecessary apps and features draining battery, with that first full charge and still settings some Apps, playing with it all the time, settings all my contacts ringtones and linking them between accounts and the normal first time usage stuff, I managed to get 5 hours and 10 mins of SoT in my T-Mobile S6 edge.

I've been using the phone today since I woke up, normal stuff for me, and again it has 59 minutes of SoT with 84% of battery remaining. So, it is still averaging over 5 hours of SoT, great battery life for this battery size in a QHD screen. One important thing here is to use Dark or Black Wallpapers and/or Themes, and in my case I NEVER, EVER use any of my phones with Brightness over 25%, actually I always use between 15-20% in AMOLED displays, the 25% was my LG G3, and with the option to use Auto brightness while Outside, my eyes are used to that for years now, and if I turn that up immediately begins bothering my sight, so for those of you that always have a Mind set on Highest Brightness, ALL the time, give it a try, begin very low in a low light room, or just under a roof and get your eyes used to that and you will see that in a day or so you won't need to be cranking up that brightness, plus you'll save a lot of battery life doing so.

Like I've said many times before, if I managed to get constantly 4-4.5 hrs of SoT on a Moto X 2-14 with 2300 mAh and last year technology, I'm sure that I can get over 5 hours on the S6 easily and constantly, so far I was right.

I'll try to create a new thread soon, just like I did last year with the S5, showing screens with Settings and Bloatware Disabled, so if anyone of you want to follow my suggestions you'll welcome to do it. But so far with the above summary you can have an idea if you are looking for some help on this.

I know, you shouldn't have to type so much.:sly:

I didn't have to disable any of those things to get great battery life on my M8. With all of those items to disable to get great battery life you might as well turn off the phone.

I didn't know I was whining or throwing a tantrum. I'm glad you know how to turn settings off on your phone. Great job. I was sharing my opinion. Its no hardship for me either.
