I think my st tech support has no idea what they are talking about

Bought a unlocked note 8 ( was told it started on vzw but has tmo carrier splash. Bought a new byop sim card vzw . Fought for a while with tech support and apns . Finally got data and the ability to make a call at the same time I thought all was good. Until I tried to send a picture message . No luck . Download speed was very slow as well . Called them back gave me to a tech support manager who tells Samsung s7 and up have a software problem follow these steps .. remove sim , power phone on no sim, factory data reset, connect to wifi , system update, power down , insert sim , power up enter apn ( TRACFONE.VZWENTP) all should be well . Told me this comes from a bulletin put out by Samsung. All is not well when I got to the point to do the update phone says your software is up to date . ( I had already done the update a few hours before and the reset hadn't erased it? ) now I have mostly no service and when I do have it it's 3g at best. ... total nightmare

Nope I mean kinda I have 3g and can place and receive calls but data is slowwww and I can't send picture messages

Something wrong with the APN , the 3 dots upper right give option to reset APN?

I can from general maintenance and have dozens of times .
The apn settings I'm using are exactly the same as three other Samsung's on straight talk Verizon within 5 miles of my house

We were going to try Straight Talk, but we did some research and they were BY FAR the worst rated service we'd ever seen..... and that's mainly because of their (lack of) customer support. They're not worth dealing with at any price....save yourself the stress and gray hairs and go with somebody (anybody) else. And look for clearance sales on new phones...used phones are more trouble than their worth as you're finding out.

Phones are too important to modern life to skimp on the device or services

As far as "tech support", the only people who have any clue at all are the ST people on Facebook, and they're not too far above clueless.
