I tried to root, what went wrong?

Hello,

Today I decided to take the plunge and root my shift. I followed the instructions that were posted, but for some reason it didn't take. After I download "z4root", I installed it and then ran the app. It loaded up, and I selected temp root, then it went through it's process and then rebooted the phone.

Here is where it gets interesting, when the phone rebooted, it was really slow. When I tried to get into my app drawer, it took forever, and the scrolling was just as worse. The I looked for "super user" in my app drawer and the z4root program was gone. Is this normal, or am I missing a step here? I had to reset my phone so it would stop being so slow. Any help here would be appreciated in advance.

Timothy

I did the same thing z4root won't install super user for you you have to install super user through the Android Market before running the z4root apk. So go download super user then reinstall z4root and everything should go fine

Hope that helps

Big D5,

It is still a no go for me. I downloaded the super user from the market like you said, then I run z4root again, and it is still the same. My phone still runs really slow. I downloaded an terminal emulator to see if I had super user access, and every time i tried to run the emulator it would force close on me. I think that I am going to stay the way I am for right now. Thank for your help.

I had the identical experience using Visionary+, including the fact that the Visionary+ app was no longer listed in the app drawer until after I pulled the battery.

I'm having the same exact issue. Z4root loaded, ran, then rebooted. The sreen was stuck on the 4G screen, so I had to manually restart the device. now it runs slow...what the hell is that z4 doing to our devices?

Big D, I am using the same version as you are, v 1.3.0, i have another question, after you run z4root, and the phone reboots, is the z4root app still suppose to be in your app drawer?

Yes its still there z4root has bo be in your app drawer so you can get rooted again after a reset. It takes a few minutes for z4 to install and it reboot the shift when its done. After the reboot it should be in the para drawer.

Hmm, strange, because after I went through the steps you listed, for some reason it disappears from my phone, wonder if I should try the visonary app, and see how that works.

Couldn't hurt give it a shot and post here what happened I am curious what's going on.

Big D5,

Okay, I just loaded visonary+ on it, and and everything is great, haven't rebooted yet, but will in a few minutes to see what happens, and let you know how it turns out.

I have a question, in the settings for visonary, should i have the boxes checked for "run visonary.sh after reboot" and "set system r/w/ after root"?

So my experience was the opposite of proactix'. VISIONary+ produced the same symptoms for my Shift as z4root did for his (dog slowness, no root access, app missing from app drawer until power cycling), while z4root worked with no complaints for my Shift as VISIONary+ did for his. It's bizzaro world!

ive had no problems using visionary and been temp rooted for days...all i did, from stock, was download the visionary+ apk from 19/Nov r14: VISIONary + one click root - Android @ MoDaCo (note I DID NOT install superuser from the market)...installed using root explorer.....I checked off "run visonary.sh after reboot" and "set system r/w/ after root" and then clicked temproot....it automatically installed superuser and then that was it...no slow down no nothing...just temp root and started rm the bloat....never tried z4r but visionary definitely works fine

Z4root didn't work for me either but visoinary+ works most of the time. occasionally it crashes and I have to reboot.

my 2 cents

This same problem occured to me, i was missing my z4 as well as some of my paid apps and my Shift was indeed running like a slug after it rebooted and stayed on the 4G screen for a good 2 minutes. So i figured out a quick and simple solution (idk if it will work for you but it worked for me) that included turning my Shift back off and restarting it, not rooting it at all, wait till it is fully on and running up to proper speed, then restarting it again and then rooting my device. It worked perfect. Sometimes z4 just reboots and laggs up the system so just restart and redo.

I had the same problems with both Z4 and Visionary+ that you guys are describing. I guess I'm just going to have to wait....
