So I got my HTC One today. I set everything up, got all my apps installed and started messing around with it to see what it could do.

Unfortunately I figured I'd check for software updates and I hit the "Update Profile" option. Apparently that is code for let Sprint jack up my phone. Now all the bloatware is installed and I have to set up my phone again.

WTF??? Is there a way to undo that short of throwing it out a window and getting a new one?

Something similar happened to me. Except mine happened when I shut down and turned the phone back on for the first time. All my apps I added to my home screens were gone and the Sprint apps were back. Hoping this doesn't happen every time I restart it, scared to now and making it a point not to restart. Anyone else have this happen?

when I got my one I updated my profile and it wiped my phone! I think it only happens once because I have updated the profile a couple of times since!

The Sprint version (not sure about other carriers) ships without any Sprint ID or bloat whatsoever. It's only after you activate it that Sprint downloads their nonsense. Once that's done, it won't happen again, and you should wait until after this process to begin customizing your device. Some are reporting that the Sprint Default Configuration prompt keeps appearing in their notification bar. Simply find the Sprint Installer in Apps > All and tick "disable notifications" and you will not have to go through this again, not even after a reboot. Of course this advice is meaningless to anyone after the fact, but for those coming upon it for the first time, I hope it helps.

The same thing happened to my Rogers one. I inserted my SIM into it after using only WiFi for 3 days. At first I was surprised there was no bloatware. The I inserted the SIM and the there was bloatware.

FYI - since I was going to be stuck setting everything up again, I went ahead and did a factory reset. Hallelujah! A full wipe allowed me to skip the part that downloads all the bloatware and get back to a clean install. Thanks to Peter Venkman for the notification deal, it was coming up on mine, but it won't anymore.
