I use Moto G4 with Android 7.0. I am a heavy user of voice typing (for email, Google docs etc). But I use it in combination with the keyboard -- to insert punctuation marks, make corrections to words and names, etc.

Recently I find that the keyboard has become unusable. I dictate something using voice input and then find that the keyboard has gone "dead". I cannot input any punctuation sign, make any change in spelling and so on. The keyboard is there in front, in the lower part of the screen, but does not respond to any keypress. What can I do? Thanks in advance for any advice on this matter.

Maybe reboot your phone. If that's not helping you could check for updates of the app or reinstall it. Did you update the app when this happened? Maybe this version is unstable or contains bugs.
Hope this helped you. I really can't think of anything else :/

Are you using the stock Moto keyboard? Maybe try installing GBoard and see if that makes any difference.

@3P1C and @badcat

Thanks for your responses.

I tried various hacks but nothing seemed to work. Now I have gone ahead and done the ultimate: a factory reset! That involved a lot of work naturally. But for now I can resume my voice typing...

Thanks again.
