I have waited so long for an OS that does not keep you a prisoner in Apple/Microsoft proprietary prison.

I have used my ole Palm Tungsten T3 for years, waiting for something better to come along.

I am sure that a year from now, I won't be posting something like this, but are their any decent Android Tab/PDAs, where a contract is NOT needed ?

Thanks,

Jon :)

Hey buddy.. You can check out the Archos tablets at ARCHOS - they have some pretty good tablets for pretty good prices. On top of that, they also offer Windows 7 tablets, etc.

The galaxy tab can be bought off contact. Right now it seems to be the top off the Android tablet market. A wifi only model that's not tied to any carrier is supposed to be available soon so you may want to wait for that.

I am aware that the Galaxy Tab can be purchased without a contract, but it WAYtoo expensive to do that.

It appears that there are many Android devices coming out and I feel very confident that a year from now, I wouldn't ask this question.

The profit of having a Tab, PDA, micro computer, turned into a cell phone with a contract is a lot higher with forcing a cell phone contract.

I see a bunch of Chinese offerings, but I feel that South Korea has the best offerings for electronic devices and Appliances. Unfortunately, most else is being made with the cheapest hardware that can be found, in mainland China and made by virtual slaves/prisoners (like the Ipod crap).
I am a fan of LG, Cowon and Samsung, but I prefer the other two.
Cowon makes the best quality multi-media players.
LG only releases product that is a step above the others at the time of release.

I also prefer the use of a stylus focused navigation, over touchscreen, which is really an old technology, if anyone remembers the failed HP touch PCs. Sometimes slick can create a lot of repairs.

Thanks,

Jon :)

I have followed the Archos, which seems to be improving with each release. Possibly their next release of Android products will be one that I will jump at.
I personally don't think that it is "there yet", for me yet, as I would like some more mature features and less proprietary features to it.

For one thing, I would never get a portable device, where the wireless HiFi internal adapter does NOT accept the N standard. That makes an enormous difference over G.

Thanks,

Jon

PS: UndeadCircus --> I didn't know that there was limited seating in Hell. I hope that changes because I know me and all my buddies will be there. :)
