I want to develop an android app that automatically plays an attached mp4 in a received email

I have a server side application that sends email with audio attachments when certain things happen. I want to develop an android app that will run on my phone that will scan my email in-box every 2-3 minutes and if it receives an email from a particular username it will automatically play the attached audio file.

Does this sound like something that could be done easily or would it be very difficult? Is i something that I could learn how to do myself? I need some guidance here. I've never developed anything for android before and need some direction and advice.

Not sure if possible without root since this sounds insecure as heck, but if it can be done, ot also sounds like something you could do with automation apps like Tasker or IFTTT
