There are some replacement apps. iMessage is the Hangouts equivalent (roughly)

As for the speed of the device, that may depend on the app/circumstance.

I just jumped to the dark side Sunday. I came from an iPhone 5S and a loong time iPhone user. Frankly, I'm thrilled with the Note 4. I don't miss I message a bit and this phone with it's 3 huge megs of ram is not slow at all. It's a beautiful and powerful phone. Coming from iPhone there is a little learning curve, but it's not bad. I think it's quite worth it.

My daughter's boyfriend uses an iPhone 4 and he love it and has since he got it (and he's a technophile). I use a Note (3 in my case), am also a technophile, and love it. I can't see how he can use that little, cluttered, screen. And he can't see how I can use this gigantic phone. (I got it before I had my cataracts removed - reading a 4" screen and flapping my arms to get to Mars fell into the same category. Even reading the Note 3 was a lot of work. [Now I can read the fine print on labels that most people need magnifying glasses for.])

You're basically asking if you should stop eating pistachio ice cream and switch to butter pecan. Go to your carrier's store and play with a Note 4. Text your iPhone. Make a call. (If you text the Note 4 with your iPhone, mark it SMS or it won't work.) Tell yourself whether it's worth the switch. (Which phone is best, if you're not being irrational, is a personal choice, there's no best, there's no better, there's just "I like it more".)

If you do decide to switch, remove the phone from iMessage before you switch, or all the texts sent to you will be going to text heaven. And text all your iPhone friends to send you a response marked SMS, to tell their phones that you now need SMS messages. (Some day Apple will be normal, but neither of us will live that long.)

Abbie, it is definitely worth it IMO. As a cell phone repair technician and now as a shop owner, I've had experience with all generation of iPhones and a wide variety of Android phones. I went from an S4 to the iPhone 6 to an S5 and Note 4 in under one week and the Note 4 is the best phone I've had the pleasure of using so far. There is a learning curve only because you can do so much more customizing and tweaks (not even rooted) especially with the S Pen. A lot of people say that Apple IOS is easier/simpler to use but I think it's a load of crap. IOS may be more intuitive if you're a completely new to smart phones (especially if all you're wanting to do is call and text) but once you get an Android device and give it an honest shot I think you'll find that it'll be just as easy to use, but much more rewarding.

I was using the Galaxy S4 for the past year and recently signed a new contract and got the iPhone 6 for my business line. The day after I picked up the 6, I found someone selling their Galaxy S5 for a really good price and couldn't pass it up. So now I was using two flagship phones but it only took a few days before I started to hate the iPhone. I felt handicapped in its capabilities compared to the S5 (and even the S4) and realized that it really didn't offer anything over an iPhone 4, 4S, 5, or 5S besides better hardware. I did not get excited over screen size because I've been using the S4 for a whole year already and the 6 was pretty much the same size. While I was browsing Craiglist, I found an ad of someone wanting to trade their brand new Note 4 for my 64GB iPhone 6 because it was too big for his wife. I'm not a person who makes impulse decisions so I told the guy I only owned the 6 for 3 days and wanted to use it for a few more days to see if it would grow on me. Those 3 days passed and we met up and traded devices and ever since then I can't put the thing down. I barely even touch the S5 now too.

The Note 4 IMO will blow your mind in what it's capable of if you're coming from the 4S (or any phone, really). Be sure to read the manual (I haven't) and/or watch lots of YouTube videos for tips and tricks explaining the features and capabilities in the phone. I found a video for the S5 very helpful in setting up my phone but haven't had the chance completing the Note 4 video yet.

The note 4 uses an adaptive charger. 9v @1.67a. The stock iphone charger is 5v,1a which is much slower. You can use the ipad charger for quicker charge like I did but Note 4 still charges substantially faster especially 0-75%

Like others have said, it's largely a matter of personal preference. I can tell you, though, that my wife loves her Galaxy S4 compared to her old iPhone 4S, and she is far, far from being a techie. Removable battery and SD card extra storage are two big features for me that even the new iPhones just don't offer. Personally, I think the Samsung S or Note phones are way better than the 4S (the only iPhone I am familiar with). Android is so much more customizable, and so much easier to transfer and organize photos and other files from a PC. I was often frustrated trying to deal with issues with her iPhone, which sometimes my PC would recognize, sometimes not, and sometimes iTunes would recognize, sometimes not - what a huge PITA! Now she's happy, and I'm very happy!

Apple iPhone 4S vs Samsung Galaxy Note 4

I used to have the 4s before switching to the original Note back in 2011. The Note 4 is light years ahead of that and even better than the Iphone 6 which my daughter uses. The Iphone is perfect for people that don't like to customize everything about their phone. The Note 4 has the best most vivid screen I've seen yet on a phone and its light for its size. Great battery life even with heavy use I get about 15-17 hours a day sometimes longer.

I was an iPhone 4s user 2 weeks ago before switching to android.

My thoughts...

I don't miss imessage at all, because note 4 supports hangouts, what'sapp, etc. Just make sure your textmate has either hangouts or whatsapp app installed on their individual phone.

Is it worth it? Heavenly YES!!

Let me tell you why I switch from iPhone 4s or why I didn't upgrade to the latest iPhone 6 or 6plus:

1) the screen is marvelous - best display on the market right now.
2) spen is useful if you know how and when to use it.
3) expandable memory card.
4) customization
5) rear facing camera. Even though it is not snappy when taking picture. It provides better quality photos. You just need to make your hand steady when taking pictures.
6) 120degree front facing camera is awesome for selfie (wefie). Although, I prefer the quality of iphone6plus' front facing camera. But, note 4's wide angle is awesome.
7) fast charging + replacesable battery = unbeatable.
That's all I know from now, since I only got this phone 2 weeks ago.

IPhone 4s was an awesome phone during its time, but Iphones that came after that didn't give me that WOW factor to upgrade. I was an android phone user before I got the iPhone 4s, and I HATED andriod back then because it lags too many times.however, when the note 3 came out and tested it in their store, I'm ready to switch back bit told to my self that I'll wait 1 more year for the note 4. And so, this day came by and got the note 4. Comparing the speed difference of my last android phone and my note 4, is huge. The note 4 still lags in heavy use, but comparing it to iphone4s and the iPhones came after that...the note 4 is the NEXT BIG THING. Note 4 is worth it.

I just switched about 2 weeks ago from a 5S also! It takes some getting use to, but the trade offs are well worth it. I actually bought a note 3 from eBay and just ordered my note 4 after trialing it.

I tried doing a vlog on my practice channel about it but got lazy. Can't link because I'm too new to this forum.

I still love my 5S and the iPhone has a much faster and robust os when compared to the note, but the flexibility of everything is so much better.

Messaging is actually a lot better in my opinion.

The size may be the only difficult thing getting used to. Texting is texting. And the note is most likely faster and more efficient than the old iPhone
