I won one of the Telus Fascinates - did Telus really eff up Froyo?

Okay I have a Bell Galaxy S Vibrant which fell victim to the dreaded SD failure, sent away for 8 weeks and they finally sent me a new one with a 9.10 build date. There is still some question as to the stability of the Vibrant SD units, so my intention, when I won the Facebook contest, was to unlock the Telus and have it as a backup to the Bell one. Just in case.

So yesterday, the prize came. I got to updating to Froyo, unlocking, threw in my Bell sim card, got on the network and started setting it up.

And imagine my shock when Telus Froyo doesn't seem to work, at all, like Bell!

1) Social Hub - on my Bell, I have a unified hub with my hotmail, gmail, bell.net email accounts, facebook, sms, and msn messenger all grouped. I can not, under any cirmcumstances, get this set up on the Telus. I tried for 3 HOURS. I can set up the individual accounts in the email apps, and I can add the accounts to accounts and sync, but they will not display in Social Hub.

2) I can't get my contacts to sync. When they do, the display pictures are mixed up. My mom's face appears on my husbands entry. My sis is my brother.

It seems to be something in the accounts and syncing...any ideas? It was aggravating enough I wiped the damn thing back to factory and went back to my Bell SGS. If the SD fails, I'll try again, but I'll be back on a Bell one as soon as it comes back from replacement.

I don't get it.

Okay forgive if I'm about to sound stupid here, but since I've always only been on CDMA I'm new to the unlocking thing. My understanding is that I don't have to flash a Bell ROM to the phone. When I put in my Bell SIM it registers on the Bell network and I entered the Bell APN settings in. Shouldn't I still be able to use social hub even if its the official Telus froyo ROM? If it's SIM unlocked that's all I need to do, right?

Could it be that when I go to the social hub site and login to my profile the IMEI shows as the Bell Vibrant so I would have to associate the Telus handset IMEI to the account?

Sorry if I sound stupid but the whole SIM card thing is still new to me and the concept of SIM unlocked phones...

Well if the phone has its factory firmware locked to it (Bell) and you unlock that then the phone will work on any network supporting that same network. EG GSM - just pop in the respective simm card, bell, telus, rogers and CDMA does is not supported since those phones don't use simm cards.

You problem is likely that you don't have the factor firmware now and what is in the phone does not support that model. If it did it would work.

Even if it is the official Telus/Samsung Froyo update? That's the Rom that's on it. Its not aftermarket...I can still get the emails no problem, its just social.hub itself. The standalone email for hotmail and email work as usual.
