I updated my wife's 8.9 this morning. She likes it, but in trying to restore some of her icons, shortcuts, etc. I discovered that Samsung's ISC launcher won't let me install a web page shortcut to the home screen. There is no message why, either from the stock browser or from Chrome. Incidentally, ICS is supposed to automatically install icons from downloaded apps (does this on my Xoom), but when I downloaded Chrome, I had to go look for it in the app folder.
I also tried to install a web page shortcut on the home screen using the CMarks app (I used this for a couple of years before Chrome decided to write their app for Android). CMarks is the only app that gave me a clue about why it could not install an icon on the home screen:
"You do not have the default Android Launcher installed. Shortcuts cannot be created without this application (though it does not need to be your active home application)."
Hrmmm.
I am now running JB on my Xoom and had been running ICS for several months now. Never a problem with sending shortcuts to the homescreen. And the way Play works (or should work) under ICS is that when you download an app from the store, it automatically sends the icon to your home page, or the first free spot it can find. I can't find anywhere on the 8.9 where I can invoke the use of the Android default launcher (if it even has it, that is).
Anyone seeing this?
