Besides Samsung's themes and icons are the icon packs in the play store that you can use on touch wiz?

Yes. You can use icon packs found in the play store in addition to what you find in Samsung’s store. Both will work. Enjoy!

How do you use a third party icon pack with TouchWiz?

You know what I think I misspoke. I use them on Nova. I’m not sure if you can use them on the stock launcher. Now that I think about it I don’t think I’ve tried.

Thanks for calling me out on that. I apologize for the misinformation.

I haven't tried using them with TW either, but IF you can use them, when they install you would look for their app icon and launch their interface to install the icons rather than the way I install them through Apex. try it with some free ones.

You can use third party icons packs on the homescreen with TouchWiz by installing an app like Awesome Icons or Aycon.

This works but I don't know if there is any other way. This is alot of work as you have to manually change each icon.

Most third party icon packs in the Google Play Store aren’t natively compatible with Samsung Themes.

There can be a workaround but I haven’t bothered

I suggest using a better launcher than Touchwiz anyways.

Microsoft Launcher is amazing.

I was using it until I got a deal for Nova Launcher Prime for 99 cents.
Nova Launcher prime is the best.

Not a big fan of nova any more. It feels sluggish compared to TouchWiz. I used to use it on all of my phones until the S8+.

That is surprising to hear. As much as I actually liked the Samsung experience on the Note 8, I missed some things from Nova so I've been using it for a month or so now. It is just as fast and smooth as the Samsung UI.

At least there are a number of good launchers out there now plus Samsung has improved so much it's not as big of a deal as it once was.

It's honestly just not worth the time and effort to set up an alternate launcher

I respect your opinion, but it took me about 30 minutes tops to set up Nova exactly the way I want it. No longer than it took me to set up The Samsung launcher. Doing so gave me functions that I use everyday and save me time every time I use them.

That doesn’t mean it’s worth it to you though so I respect that.

Same here, I've been playing with Nova for a bit but it just isn't my cup of tea and takes too much time to set to my liking.

I’m just curious, do you do any set up on the Samsung launcher or do you just use the phone as is out of the box? I’m not being critical at all. To each their own. I’m just curious.

I took a lot of time to get Samsung launcher to look exactly as I want it, using some widgets and apps to achieve this. I have used the same look and apps on all my devices, I don't like too many changes. Sometimes after a system update some apps or widgets don't work anymore and I have to find a similar one, or sometimes an app just disappears from the Play Store which causes me to replace it.

Cool. I always like hearing about the choices people make with their phones. With Android, the choices are endless. I don't do anything too crazy just because I don't really have the time like I used to. I just happen to utilize a few things in Nova that are not in the Samsung launcher so it's worth the 30 minutes or so to set up one time.

Believe me, on previous phones I would spend hours playing with Nova and buying all different icon packs, changing animations, etc. but since getting the note 8 I just can't be bothered. I definitely don't use the "out of the box" setup. Beautiful widgets clock on top, just the dock on the bottom of my main home screen. I usually use a photo of my kids or something for my wall paper so I want to be able to see it
