Installed the 7.1 build of the teamhacksung ICS gummy build. I notice that when I get notified about just about anything (hotmail, gmail, etc.), the bottom 4 buttons on the phone light up and then don't go out until I wake the phone. I have tried all sort of parameter tweakes backlight etc. options and it hasn't changed. Is this a known bug - and/or does anyone have a solution? I still barely get through a day without having the phone die - so I'm trying to economize power wherever I see it being wasted.

The option you are looking for is under the "display" settings. Just uncheck "pulse notification light" then the lights won't turn on when you get notifications.

As far as battery I switched to aokp and have much more options and in my case the battery had been better then on ths 7.1 (could just be me though)

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll give that a try for a couple of days. If not good, then I suspect that I'll also switch.

I feel that the battery has been great on 7.1. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Must not be luck because I would have to agree. I use my phone all day at work (email, navigation, calls) where I frequently drive in and out of service for extended periods and by the end of the day (unplug at 6:30am and plug back in ~10:00pm) I still have around 30%. On the weekends, when I stay in service areas and don't use nav, I use less than half the battery all day. That's a winner in my book.

I unchecked the pulse notification in the display options, but when I check later on the option is checked again. I'm guessing that's a bug. Anyone else experiencing this as well?
