So have you developed a JB ROM that works? I have never rooted/flashed a thing, but may be willing to go forward if it works.

The comment was meant more as sarcasm. There a bunch of JB stuff coming down from the Atrix leak that looks very promising. Give a little while.

But I'm a naive android user, who misses features on WebOS that are partially implemented in ICS and JB. I may try to upgrade to some alpha ROM this weekend, but I'm very nervous abuot it. I haven't even rooted the device, and don't know basic things, like how to back stuff up. Maybe I should just copy my photos to the computer, back up my contact list (which is a mess, because I have both google and non-google contacts) and write a list of all the apps I actually use and would want to get back.
Anyhow, the whole thing seems very daunting. I'm reasonably technical, but there's a lot of new ground to cover.
I don't suppose I could interest you in an hourly rate for phone support.

I feel your pain, and having just upgraded to a Galaxy Nexus... the JB experience is pretty sweet. Backing stuff up is actually fairly straightforward though and Google Play has a list of all the apps you have downloaded (in chronological order, just go to Play> My Apps> All and start downloading after the root). I did a root on my old Photon at one point with the intention of flashing a ROM, but never ended up bothering with the Rom. I was going to do the same thing with my Nexus when I got it, but honestly, rooting and flashing is a butt-ton more hassle on Android than it was on WebOS. Especially considering the Nexus is akin to being a developer phone, a user shouldn't need to download and connect to a PC to root.
From one old WebOSer to another, have you tried the Wave Launcher app?
No, I rarely used the wave thing in WebOS. But I do use Perfect Task Switched, which gives an interface similar to the "cardS" presentation, except for not seeing the info on the card, just the app name. But it's a convenient way to see what apps are actually running, to switch among open instances of apps, and to force an app to close if you want to do that.
My son had a nexus s 4G that he lost. We recently found it. I reactivated it and spent the day playing w/JB. IMHO its not all that. I thought I would be on that phone for a while but it took less than a day to go back to my mopho. JB just isn't that big of a deal.

I am still in shock that Motorola decided not to upgrade the photon 4g to ICS. I can see if they were trying to upgrade to JB, but c'mon, this is ICS.

Ikr? Looks like we are stuck with having to use launchers to make our Photons look like ICS. (Or if you've rooted your phone, then I guess you could install anything you want on it...)

Well, the Q isn't really an upgrade from the original Photon! And you still have to send Stupid Motorola your Photon.
Now, if they said "get a new Motorola phone and prove to us you bought it and have service on it and we will send you a Visa or MasterCard with $100", well, that would be a little less painful, and you still have to wait until your contract is up so you can get it!
So HELL NO!!! I say go to hell Motorola and Sprint!
If you really want a newer phone with newer software get one of the latest Android phones!
Like I said before, I will wait until Nov 23 to see if Sprint is really going to sell the Galaxy S3 for $50. If that is the case then I most likely get that even though my contract ends on Sep 2013. How? Well, that's where you have to put your foot down and call out Sprint on their lie about the Photon getting ICS in 2012.
