ICS for Razr and Maxx but not Bionic???

Ok.. at risk of further derailing this thread:
The thing is hindsight makes mistakes practically glow in the dark. At the time each OS/Graphical Shell was written, it was done to "fix" the problems of the past. I too am a long-time MS veteran (edlin anyone?) and can say that mostly each and every new OS has improved in some ways upon its predecessor. Windows 95 was quite revolutionary for its day. The only real big mistakes I've seen MS do thus far have been:"Microsoft Bob", and "Windows ME".. - Vista I feel has been much maligned.

Back on subject:
I'm frankly a little disappointed that Moto isn't being more aggressive on getting ICS. Overall I'm just hoping that they don't further gut the darn thing by removing the ability to hide unwanted apps at least (it's bad enough we get the darn things shoved in our faces anyway). Oh well, I've purposely kept away from Rooting and so on in hopes of getting in on the soak test when they FINALLY start rolling it out.

And multitasking that, like the WebOS concept from which it draws much of its inspiration, actually works, smoothly, unlike the close-and-reopen setup that 2.3.4 employs.

Oh, and full use of both processor cores.

I'm wondering how "new" the UI will really be though. Since Moto skins everything pretty much, I'm sure the skin will carry over to ICS and that way aesthetically you won't notice a difference other than minor things here and there. Has anyone seen a leaked build of what the UI looks like w/ how moto is gonna treat their skin?

This might give us an idea what to expect.. overall looks quite nice:
ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) On Motorola Razr xt910 (Official 4.0.3) - YouTube

I'm a bit more confident about it really. If you compare that video vs the screen shots floating around there have already been a number of changes. Moto does make mistakes from time to time, but thus far I have yet to have an update render my phone unusable (though I know some here have).

I have mixed feelings on the RAZR getting it first. On the plus side it's good that other people will end up being more/less our beta testers. On the flip side though there's that bitter taste of being yesterday's shiny that has been relegated to the shelf way too fast.

Bleh, would be great if they'd unlock the bootloader and let me do it myself. *shrug*

Don't worry guys , you will get ICS
Motorola confirmed it in every occasion they got
Infact the BIONIC was the first phone (Non-Nexus) confirmed to get it, even before Google announced ICS !!!

In the other hand, us the ATRIX guys were kept in the dark until last month when Motorola updated their To Get ICS list

True, I have faith that we'll get it.. at the same time if I promise my wife I'll give her flowers first but turn around and give them first to my grandmother in front of her - well, I would likely have some splainin' to do.

A promise is lip service. Motorola has their own Bionic forum which I check on from time to time and they'd do well to utilize it a bit more proactively. Alas they, like many other companies tend to be extremely careful what is actually communicated but the problem is the absence of communication is all too often interpreted as communication itself.

All I can say is yes I want it. No I'm not happy the RAZR gets it first. But I'm hoping that like they used our Bionics as a test bed for the RAZR they use the RAZR as a test bed for the Bionic and get everything worked out before we get it.

Here's to hoping everything works out soon.

My first OS was DOS 2.11 If you think DOS was fine, you have REALLY LOW expectations. At least DOS was tricky enough that some of my wages were derived from teaching it!! Along with Excel and one of the older versions of Windows--whatever was used in 1994.

DOS 6.22 wasn't too bad, when compared to earlier versions. :)

DOS was fine at the time because it was all we had, so we made do. We got work done and life went on until the next best thing came out.

The original Palm Pilot seemed like a miracle to some of us, because it was that or a Daytimer, but compared to Android it seems like crap now. Did I have low expectations because I thought it was fine?

I'm 54 years old, I played Zork on a Vic 20. Not only was it fine, it seemed fantastic. I met my wife using an Amiga 500 and GEnie. Again, it was fine for the job....at that time.

20 years from now we'll be saying the same thing about Win7 that we're saying now about DOS.

And Dave, maybe decaf might be a good idea.

Using a DOS based word processor was a bear--even the venerable WordPerfect. Gotta love WYSIWYG in Windows. I don't miss DOS one bit.

54?? You're just a kid!!

How about WordStar running on CP/M, I'm a bit younger than you, but I remember late nights finishing book reports up typing up that on my family's Franklin Ace 1200.

DOS and general shell commands are still very useful for computing though. There are some things that you can do via command line that are harder to do in the GUI.

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. Although not really ground breaking, it gives me something to look forward to. I'm especially interested in the Improved Speed and multi core improvements. We already get some of the UI changes with MotoBlur or a launcher if you use one.

I think I've stated before that the novelty of Ics will wear off quickly. I'd rather run the current GB as it is almost flawless on the razr. Here is hoping for very few bugs when is released! Fingers crossed :)

CP/M !! I almost bought into that! :) But sanity prevailed, and I got a DOS machine instead (AT&T 6300). <g>

I had two of those. Did you ever need to open the case? Amazing design for the time, as well as a pain in the butt to get back together most of the time.

prompt=$e[1;37;44m$p$g

As a prank, we used to prompt=$e[5;36;45m$p$g before somebody used the PC.

[The first changed the display to bold white on a blue background - it was usually white on black. The second changed it to blinking cyan text on a magenta background.]

IIRC, the reason I entertained the thought of getting a CP/M machine was the 132 character feature. Am I remembering correctly???
