Just wanted to share some newb comments. I'm by no means a hacker. I've never rooted my phone, nor I really wanted to. However, when Moto decided to release another Gingerbread bug fix, it made me worried that we will not see ICS for a while.
I used a tool available at XDA forum,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599234
it includes the root tool, OTA Vodoo Root keeper and ICS ROM. It was super easy to use, though it took ~3 hrs to complete. I also used a My Backup Pro to back up my applications.
I love it. I mean, it is not that the phone is just slightly faster. It actually now is a fully blown smartphone. Browser is a desktop like quality and you lapdock owners... you're up for a treat. The webtop emulates a tablet. None of that main screen/phone miniature nonesense anymore. I am totally loving my Lapdock 500. The boot up time also takes seconds now.
My battery life is awesome, some users reported glitches with battery levels reporting, I had nothing like that.
The only bug I noticed that I can not adjust the call volume when my phone is by my face. As soon as the proximity sensors deactivates, I can adjust the volume just fine. Not a huge deal to me.
The other bug I noticed is that I will never be able to go back to GB now. It is a HUGE deal to me.
