Im just curious if I will lose anything by upgrading to ICS? I have contacts synced thru google but dont know if Ill lose pix and/or apps.

Tho I want to upgrade sometime today.

If you do a simple update to ICS, you won't lose data or pictures.

If, however, you decide to do a factory reset before or after the update (which, for some people, has helped with performance improvement), then you will lose all data and apps. If photos are saved to your external SD card, they won't be lost, but I think they might be at risk if they're on the internal memory. Your app list is saved to Google Play and/or Amazon Appstore (depending on where you got the apps). If you selected to back up data and settings to your Google account under Settings, then things like your wifi passwords and menu settings will be saved and restore automatically after the reset. Anything from your Google account (e.g., Google Music, Gmail, Google Contacts) gets quickly re-synced to your phone after a factory reset.

where is this backup data that you speak of? under my google acct on the phone i have checked sync contacts, gmail, google play and movies, and calendar. Is that what I want?

Settings->Privacy->Back up my data

Some (but not all) 3rd party apps supposedly will back up data to your Google account, but the problem is that I've never seen any 3rd party app specifically say that it will back up to Google.

ahhh ok i forgot about that setting. I do have it set tho so hopefully I dont lose anything. Thats just my biggest concern.

As long as all of your important Google apps are checked to sync with your Google account, (i.e., Gmail, contacts, etc. as you mentioned), your data is safe.
