Idle battery drain

that doesn't sound right. I had actually left mine off charge from 100% battery at 12am until 730am and with AOD on with WiFI, location services on, I was at 87% in the morning.
That's exactly what mine drains every night, 13%.

My Note 8 battery was great until about a week ago when it suddenly became horrible. Both standby and active use times have plummeted. I barely get 2 hours of screen on time. I hope this is fixed ASAP. I loved this phone before this issue but I'm now incredibly frustrated.

To those who feel the need to suggest turning off Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, etc please don't bother! If I wanted a feature phone I'd have gone for one, they still sell them. Samsung needs to get it's act together or get the hell out of the phone manufacturing business.

I happened to post this shot elsewhere this morning but since this on topic... screenshot of my idle time last night... fully charged and unplugged before getting to bed and left idle until I had to leave the house... about 13 hours idle = 8% battery loss.

I guess first question is to ask what your battery usage looks like during idle time and what are the top items showing for battery usage. As you can see when my phone was idle. the top power usage was from Device idle and Cell standby and Android System.

That's pretty high. Should be in the 2-4% range for an 8-ish hour night time drain, at least in my experience. Clear both cache's, and see if that helps. If no better, try to figure out what app is doing the damage.

It's not Samsung you should be blaming. It's just kind of an Android thing, and it's a knife that can cut both ways. The standards to have an app released for Android are not as stringent as they are for Apple. The down side to that can be apps that "go rouge" and become resource hogs for one reason or another. The up side is that we get some nice stuff that will never show up on Apple, like Terrarium TV, and not being controlled as much by Big Brother, er, I mean Apple.

I really saw this issue a lot when I was on a Nexus 6P. Every time the phone got any update, many apps would break until the developers got to update the apps for the changes in the Android update. At least with that phone, I could use root tools to help find the rouge apps.

I've not seen the issue yet on my N8 thankfully. I understand some of the social media apps, like FB, are often the culprits of poor battery life. So you may want to start there, if you have any of those loaded.

change screen resolution to 720p and turn off always on display.
turn off Wifi before sleeping
turn on airplane mode before sleeping.
can try Greenify

I'm not a heavy user, but when I put my device down, I expect it to cease all operations except those needed.

To obtain that end, I have to root my device(s) in order to enjoy the full Android experience without the battery killing parts.

Previously, I lost 1-2% per hour overnight to wakelocks and data transmission. I lessened Googles' data mining and made solid app choices.

1. No FB, Instagram apps, ect (I use browser)

2. Location, GPS, Bluetooth off, (Until needed). Sync off (I sync manually).

3. Play Store auto-updates off (I sync manually).

4. Greenify

5. A root firewall that blocks on a system level. (No malware, Ads, or Google Services intrusions).

6. No more yelling at customer service reps.

7. Yes, I can still update my device.

8. I wish it didn't have to come to this.
