if I insert a new sd micro card with more memory, will I lose the information from my old sd card or will it just switch over?

You'd have to do something to swap it over. Once the card containing the data is removed, the phone no longer has access to it and it won't magically be on the new card. Do you have a computer you could use to temporarily copy the info to?
