I'll just throw my short experience out there. Just got a new 32GB 2012 from Amazon. With Prime 2 day delivery they delivered it on Sunday... Sunday!! Being Presidents Day weekend, I figured it wouldn't get here till Tuesday. So I decided to check tracking today (Monday) to make sure it was at my local post office ready to be delivered tomorrow. To my surprise it really was delivered yesterday. Was sitting in my mailbox in 7 degree (F) weather all night. So I brought it in and let it get up to room temp before attempting to do anything. Figure the cold night would drain the battery. Tried to turn on, nothing. Plugged in let charge for about 15 mins.. got the intermittent blinking screen. To the forums I go!! Did some reading about loose battery issues. But before I pop the back off, I try the power + vol (-) button, and I get the battery icon. Whew!
After about 15 more mins I try setup... and shuts down while trying to put in my WiFi password. So I let it charge another 30 mins or so. Try setup again and get all the way through. Turn my screen down to low brightness and is at 15% now. A few more hours and should be all good.
I can see how if anyone not the least tech savvy got a device in this condition, they'd be headed right out to the store or on the phone trying to get a return. So far doesn't seem to be the devices fault.. just a knowledge thing.
