Quick question that I could not find the answer to by searching the forum:

I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus here in Taiwan and I want to root it, mainly because in Taiwan you cannot buy apps due to some gov't dispute.

Anyway, I want to root my GN, but I want to know if there is a way to have your settings, free apps, contacts, etc. transfer to your rooted phone or do you have to start from scratch?

Thanks

From Taiwan

Read up on Titanium Bakcup and see if that will solve things for you.

Since you're not already rooted, when you unlock your bootlaoder, you will loose everything, including pictures and music (so back them up to you pc first). Most of your apps will automatically re-download. After booting, get Titanium backup and from there you can make backups of apps and there data that can be restored of you chose to flash ROMs later.

Awesome. Thanks for your responses!

EDIT: Can I use Titanium Backup before I root my phone or only after I root my phone (and it erases my settings, apps. etc.)?
If so, what backup app is best for GN?

No, Titanium needs root to do the backups.

There aren't any backup programs i know of that get by without root, could be wrong there but Titanium is widely consider to be the best.

you contacts should be fine since they are all in gmail.

I already have a rooted GN so if I update to android 4.2.2 i will lose root but if I root again will I lose my apps and other stuff :confused::confused::confused::confused:
