I'm not a technician, so I can't explain the mechanics. It might adjust the grouping of cell towers your phone pings. What I do know is that my call quality improved greatly after trying this. As I said, you can always revert back to the original setting if it doesn't help. If you don't want to try it, you can always wait for the update that's supposed to get pushed thru sometime this summer.
