If only the UI wasn't so ugly

Especially the icons in EMUI. They're huge and dated looking. Anyone else agree?

And if you slap on a different launcher, do you even benefit from the things that makes EMUI good?

Yeah agree, hopefully with EMUI 9 things improve.

I use Nova launcher and still can use some of the features like knuckle gestures etc.

Only issue is it crashes if you try and add some is the Huawei based widgets.

You know Huawei themselves have 100's of themes you can use. You can change the icons and everything. You can also download any of the icon packs on the play store and use them.

This. Huawei and Samsung probably have the best theme engines out there and you can completely change the way it looks while maintaining EMUI. I don't use the stock launcher anyway. Microsoft Launcher is just too good

No, Tiles were the old Windows Phone/W10 mobile UI. Microsoft Launcher is like Nova Prime etc with pages of normal icons only I think so much better. It gets updated frequently with more and more features.
